As coop and others have stated, the worth of a Greaser is dependent on the percentage of coin covered. Regardless, I personally love finding these. So far I'll put them in 2x2 and give away to people that feign interest in what I do with my nights. |

Quote: and, as for why all that movement can affect only part of the coin the answer is the dies are not flat but rather slightly convex, so after the dies strike a coin and are retracting, only part of them are touching the struck coin when movement occurs, and that part is where Machine Doubling can happen
Thank you for that. The thread was turning into how to tell the differences which was not the question. Not that those answers don't help the overall education, it just missed the mark. |

I'm confused on how 1 letter of maybe 30 letters on one side of a coin will have machine doubling but nothing else does? It seems a lot of moving parts are in play, but so far I'm not seeing the answer and my google attempts are failing me. Anyone help.
Hope everyone is well.

Sorry to dig up this thread. I'm going through 2023 P Bessie Coleman quarters and finding many coins with same die chip on plane for feeder fingers like the above. I'm trying to research if these are even worth keeping. I've been putting them all in 2x2, but from what I'm reading it is a waste. The size of the die chip or feeder fingers I see can either gain value or remove value from the coin. And being that both are small, probably gain no value. So do other's keep, or do I toss into circulation? |

The rotation was to show the quarter in different refraction of light. Was my intention anyway. Since I can't sleep and I'm still up I did some reading on machine doubling and it seems that they are treasured more by the newcomer like myself. I'll keep for giggles and promise my children millions are waiting. |
