Nice!! I hope to gain the ability to find these and assign the right designation to them like you have. Coop keeps pushing me to do better, and I hope at some point he'll be like you finally did it dude.

Link to said youtube video? Pictures of the coin in question. From a fast google it seems that Philadelphia in fact used the P mint mark.

As coop and others have stated, the worth of a Greaser is dependent on the percentage of coin covered. Regardless, I personally love finding these. So far I'll put them in 2x2 and give away to people that feign interest in what I do with my nights.

If you want to start a collection of Quarters you could always stick them in a book for now and replace them down the road with better coins

I bought the Warman's books and Whitman's books to fill out as I find quarters and has truly been a fun task. I still need Guam and Washington D.C. to complete the State Quarters of 1999-2009. https://www.amazon.com/State-Quarte...p/1440212953
Best part is they are affordable.

and, as for why all that movement can affect only part of the coin the answer is the dies are not flat but rather slightly convex, so after the dies strike a coin and are retracting, only part of them are touching the struck coin when movement occurs, and that part is where Machine Doubling can happen

Thank you for that. The thread was turning into how to tell the differences which was not the question. Not that those answers don't help the overall education, it just missed the mark.

I'm confused on how 1 letter of maybe 30 letters on one side of a coin will have machine doubling but nothing else does? It seems a lot of moving parts are in play, but so far I'm not seeing the answer and my google attempts are failing me. Anyone help.

Hope everyone is well.

Where is the die chip on the plane you are referring to?

Sorry, this pic doesn't have it. I was just referring to these findings I'm seeing, they ain't worth anything usually. Especially if an electronic microscope is needed to see them. Spenders.

Sorry to dig up this thread. I'm going through 2023 P Bessie Coleman quarters and finding many coins with same die chip on plane for feeder fingers like the above. I'm trying to research if these are even worth keeping. I've been putting them all in 2x2, but from what I'm reading it is a waste. The size of the die chip or feeder fingers I see can either gain value or remove value from the coin. And being that both are small, probably gain no value. So do other's keep, or do I toss into circulation?

My novice eyes would agree with 2 die chips here. Being that the stairs are linear line, def makes me think the extra material is die chip. Now I'll watch this thread to see how I fared in my judgement. Go experts go!

I've read coop's thread here, http://goccf.com/t/336856 and it makes me doubt that is what I have. I can't seem to find the right google term to find anything else. I bought some of these quarters from mint, and out of the first 50 I've looked at I've seen 3 of these. Between the ear and his hair. The further zoomed out picture isn't showing it well.

The rotation was to show the quarter in different refraction of light. Was my intention anyway. Since I can't sleep and I'm still up I did some reading on machine doubling and it seems that they are treasured more by the newcomer like myself. I'll keep for giggles and promise my children millions are waiting.

Doubling of some type? Couldn't take pictures to save my life tonight. If they aren't worthy I'll try again tomorrow with more natural light.

If you don't already, a jeweler loupe goes a long way in instances like this. I often get shadows or light bouncing if looking through my electronic microscope, but the loupe is much clearer and will give me a true reading.

As for the original question. I'm an Atheist (large A for fun) that doesn't believe in afterlife. Nothing to haunt me.
