I am going to type up a small report similar to what the user nickelsearcher had provided to the forum years ago when he was at 300,000. It will be interesting to compare our numbers after, I believe, a decade of separation.
290,000 nickels searched and still have not found a 1939-D or 1943-D
I did find ANOTHER 1939-S, which is the third one that I found in the last 30,000 nickels.
I also found a 1929-S buffalo nickel and a 1901 Liberty V nickel.
Below are my grand totals at 290,000 nickel searched and some photos of the most recent hunts coins. I've already got the next 10,000 laid out which will bring me to 300,000 nickel searched.
This is a photo of the last 10,000. That was an impressive hunt with the number and variety of finds. Hopefully the next 20,000 can yield something that I need (:
280,000 nickels searched now. I found ANOTHER 1939-S. Why ohhh why can't it just be the 1939-D (:
I also found a 1958-P Black Beauty. I believe this is the 4th example that I have found in 280,000 nickels.
Below are the totals and a few photos. The next 10,000 nickels are already set up. I'll start on those shortly and should have them done Wednesday evening.
7 months since my last hunt to the day, I finally found some time to dig into these nickels that I got back in December 2024. Below is the chart, some pics, and a link to the video. Still no 1939-D or 1943-D. I have 15 boxes left and am determined to plow through them before the end of March which will bring my total number of nickels searched to 300,000.
I have been making an attempt to complete the 1938-1961 Jefferson nickel set and am currently at 260,000 nickels searched. I am still looking for the 1939-D and the 1943-D. I started a YouTube channel nickelguy88 documenting the journey and provide a visual of how to make your time more efficient when conducting a nickel hunt. Time is not on my side right now, but I am hoping to plow through 40,000 nickels over Christmas so that I can be at 300,000 nickels searched.
I found several in a box earlier this year. I set them aside and must have accidentally turned them all in to the coin machine. I haven't seen any since then in probably 40,000 nickels.
It just now occurred to me via the comments section that I have not set aside the 2024-P or 2024-D for my collection. I've seen them, but have been so focused on the 1939-D and 1943-D that it slipped my mind.
I finally searched the 6,000 nickels that I have had laid out since July 10th. Still searching for the 39-D and 43-D. I found a buffalo and 3 silver war nickels. Totals and video are below.
