John posted on VAMWorld that he was being inundated with bot requests (scraping the site) and he moved to CloudFlare to control it, but it took some time to get it all up and working...

Reach out to the ANA (American Numismatic Association)'s past president, Dr. Ralph Ross. If there is an individual more passionate about teaching youths, I don't know of them.

I mean if you are celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, you need to recall that the Articles of Confederation were not approved by the Continental Congress until 1777

Quote:
The Articles of Confederation were adopted by the Continental Congress on November 15, 1777. This document served as the United States' first constitution. It was in force from March 1, 1781, until 1789 when the present-day Constitution went into effect.

The Continental Congress' authority was pretty questionable.

Quote:
Over a period of 15 years, from 1774 to 1789, the Continental Congress underwent a profound evolution. Starting out as a temporary group that met to address American colonists' issues with British rule, it morphed into the de facto government of the 13 colonies, and ultimately into an official governing body of the United States.

The key date for the 2nd CC? May 10, 1775 - that's right, arguably last Saturday was the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, when a body convened to determine how to fight a revolutionary war that was already underway.

Quote:
The Congress faced the task of conducting a war already in progress. Fighting had begun with the Battle of Lexington and Concord on April 19, and Congress needed to create an official army out of the untrained assemblage of militia laying siege on Boston.

As for New Jersey, that's interpretive text, not the law.

But it's pretty clear. In the example, the register would show $2.33 and **IF** paid in cash, the customer must tender $2.35. $2.33 by card.

A lot of you are missing a key fact... it doesn't change electronic transactions, only cash ones...

To direct the Secretary of the Treasury to stop minting
the penny, to require cash transactions to be rounded
up or down to the nearest five cents, and for other

yeah... that pair of dies was used, abused, put away wet, and brought out to slave away the next day and the next day and the next day, until they had the decency to crack up and be put out of their misery.

Also don't miss this. While it's discussing a specific error coin, it has some information about how the mint could have used metal ingots to make the more general shell case coins.

There is a lot of noise out there...

RWB has the info in his book and a summary in a posting on the PCGS board.

See: https://www.numismaticnews.net/arch...ger-burdette

The book is on sale @ Wizard for a nickel under $30.

Quote:
The mint tried several ways of handling bronze shell cases. The casing alloy was commonly 85% Cu and 15% Zn. Brass did not work very well for direct recycling - it became too brittle. In later 1943 box car loads of shells came into the San Francisco Mint. In melting these, the mint found that there was too much zinc volitization, plus the mints were not set up for mass melting of this material. Eventually, the casings were sent to a Mint contractor who melted them into bars of about 1,000 oz. and 10% zinc. The mints melted these and added sufficient pure melted copper to bring the alloy to standard. This occurred through 1947 and likely later.

Archive documents refer only to use of domestic shell casings from training camps, however there is some anecdotal material indicating savage of 5-inch naval shells.

Copper-based coinage alloys are subject to a wide range of discoloration. This can be attributed to environmental factors, contamination and heat, among many.

To me, the real story is much more interesting and valuable than any imaginary concoction.

Recall that there is a "goods on the water" rule that is supposed to mean the tariffs applied are those in force when the ship left the dock of its last pre-USA port. This would seem to imply that we may not yet be seeing the full impact.

CBP has always had wide latitude to focus their limited resources.

They could be choosing to let some items through to avoid backup in processing (trucks lined up waiting for days at the border has been negative publicity in the past).

Or they could be choosing to focus on high visibility (for media impact)

Or random numbers - randomness has always been a useful tool because it doesn't let the bad people game your system

Or ...

Generally, agency SOPs have not been subject to FOIA requests. Thus, we don't know what they have been TOLD to do, nor do we know what individual CBP staff ARE doing.

And assuming what happened yesterday will happen today is risky.

Yeah, if they could still make it minted only for collector's like in mint and proof sets only, similar to the Kennedy half dollar, that'd be great.

For the record, Kennedy halves are also minted for circulation.

I don;t think the S were mix in, those were bag/roll sales to collectors.

You are thinking of the W mint quarters.
