Very interesting piece! Here is a description from an auction that adds a little history for those folks who want to learn a little more:
Quote: This rare bronze medallion was made by Wall Street legend Fenner & Beane in the 1920s to early 1930s. Fenner & Beane was founded in 1919 and would become the 2nd largest brokerage in the United States. They got their start by primarily trading in cotton out of New Orleans. They expanded quickly throughout the South and Midwest trading in commodities and eventually moving to New York. Trading volumed plummeted during the Great Depression and they subsequently merged with Merrill Lynch, E.A. Pierce and Cassatt in 1941 to become Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Beane.
This medal was made to promote their Direct Private Wire Network throughout the South. This was a big deal at the time. Their direct private wires connected brokers throughout the South and New York to facilitate trading. This medal is also a fantastic piece of memorabilia listing many regional Exchanges that are now gone such as the Louisiana Sugar & Rice Exchange (1884-1963), New York Produce Exchange (1861-1973), New York Curb Market (became AMEX in 1953), and so many more. Fantastic piece!

@pops, welcome to CCF but sorry that you got taken by this somewhat mis-leading seller. Consider not trusting anyone who uses capital letters so liberally. |

@mon, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes that looks like a doubled die to me too. Having overall pics of both sides of the coin would help to confirm, but based on the amount of circulation wear that I am seeing, I'm not sure that there is enough numismatic value here to justify getting it slabbed. |

@mon, rather than doubling, I believe that the extra metal in the letter W is from that die crack--perhaps there was a tiny chip in the die associated with that crack.
By the way, your close-up pictures are way above average for someone with only a couple posts here--well done! |

@tip, we see coins like this with a very heavy rim on one side and odd flattening from time to time. It might be from having been put under a hollow table leg to level it out, such as at a restaurant, but it is impossible to know for sure. |

Quote: I have a quarter that I think has many errors.
While it isn't impossible for this to happen, it is a vanishingly small occurrence, especially in a coin so well circulated. Much more likely (and true in this case) is that the heavy circulation wear and random damage has caused these sorts of unusual aspects. |
