Quote: Have to wonder why anyone would bother with something so nondescript?
Thought the same thing Earle. My guess is that it was a punch for some other use that someone decided to punch a cent with. Here's a great example...
This punch was used to punch the handle of some tool. I found the tool on eBay. Can't put my finger on neither the tool or the saved picture at the moment.
Two new cities... First is Ludington, Michigan. This was definitely not stamped but I believe laser etched. I spent many a long weekend at a friend's cabin in Pentwater just south of Ludington as a kid and teenager.
Second is Colorado Springs, Colorado counter stamp...
Other cities with their names counter stamped on LMCs... Looks like the Littleton sales rep stayed predominantly on the east coast.
Agreed Earle. Mike Collins is a definite hero in my book. He endured 47 minutes of the unknown and TOTAL isolation. Looking forward to our future heroes who will bring us to Mars and beyond. Hope I'm alive to see it happen.
Edit: Decided to do some Googling about the subject. Rad across this interesting article.
Here is a gift sent to me by Hondo. Very kind and appreciated. Thank you.
7-20-69. The day that "One small step for man. One giant leap for mankind." was broadcast around the globe.
NASA Apollo 11 lunar module carrying Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin lands on the surface of the Moon. Seven hours later Armstrong becomes the first person to step on the moon at 10:56 p.m. EDT, Aldrin joins him shortly after. Michael Collins remains in orbit in the command module.
Another couple of the cup style stamped Lincoln Cents...
On both of these I have yet to research the symbolism of the crown on the first coin and the three triangles on the second.
EDIT: Looks like the crown is from the York Rite Masons. It is called the Knight York Cross of Honor.
The rectangle on top of the three triangles I don't know. Triangles seem to be a common theme in Masonic symbolism but I can't put my finger on that particular design.
