Clearly just hit marks. On the cheek you can see the reed marks, on the forehead and temple hit marks made from the edge of coins with reeds.

I agree with it being lighting problem, try to move coin around at different angles. The ear doubling looks too large from other examples in that area maybe it is zinc bubble? Can not say for sure though. Need better focused picture.

I think the clue is the crack in the rim area, that crack indicates a worn die, so maybe pieces fell off when struck? However, if that was the case then why rim cuds were not produced in blank areas? Any other ideas on this?

The ring like look between letters and rim is ridge ring, the scrape look in the field is from a coin wrapping machine.
