The collection thus far

This is what I consider to be the "low hanging fruit" of what I currently want

I still need the Bush C&Cs Reverse Proof but it always has the version of the label that I like for the C&C coins so now I just have to wait for a good deal

13 of these will be submitted for reholders with the simple Brown Label and 2 Line Text Format

Next I will work on the 3 3 ASEs that I want, BUT I don't want to submit them for reholders so finding 2 of them with the correct period brown labels will be difficult

The 2019 S is easy but the 1995 W and 2008/2007 always seem to be reversed, which doesn't make sense to me

I had to return 2 of the coins I received yesterday

A 2105 P Kennedy Presidential dollar that had a badly scratched up holder

It had a current label and I got a great deal on it, so that was a bummer

They are supposed to exchange it for another but we will see

And a 1979 Type 2 SBA - It was supposed to be the newest label and it even had my prefered label format but they shipped one with a 2001 era label

I did a search and came up with this

I never really liked the PCGS holders and I really didn't like their label format

And now that I see this is how the did the presidential dollars

It just reinforces my decision to go with NGC

I fixed a rotated Ike slab this way. It worked surprisingly well. That being said, try at your own risk!

I also used this process to fix a rotated coin and it did not mar or otherwise damage the corner of the holder

BUT I wasn't as aggressive as the guy in the video

Quote:
The PCGS labels for the 2015 dollars are especially annoying. The front label is "special" and all the grading information is on the back label.

Which dollars, I would like to check them out

I like this set up way better than your quarters album

Did you print the backer boards

If you did, you should duplicate the process for your quarter album

EDITED TO ADD

I just did the math and this layout doesn't (horizontal) work for the quarters because you have 6 coins per subject

So that only works in the vertical layout

As I receive my coins I'm starting to realize that it's not the excessive lines of text that bother me as much as the artwork they use to embellish the label

I'll use my Kennedy Presidential C&Cs Dollar as an example

I prefer the simple 2 line format like the SBA on the left side of the below image, but it's impossible to find certain coins with this format, especially the C&C coins

I bought a coin like the second version - 4 lines of text left justified
I don't like the excessive lines of text for normal coins such as when they add "Silver Reverse Proof Set", "Official Mint Proof Set" etc.
3 of the Rev PF Presidential coins that I have bought are like this and I think I will be okay with this format for this particular series of graded coins

The 3rd version with the centered text is okay but it's impossible to get the newer coins with centered text
I have an Ike C&Cs dollar like this version and I will either get it reholdered or just sell it if I find the left justified version

The 4th and 5th example with the color art work seem to be what I really don't like.
I prefer the slab be more about the coin and less about the label
Plus that signature option adds nothing to the value of the slab for me

The last example with 5 lines of text just seems way to overly descriptive, very busy and very small in person

I'll reholder a most of my graded collection with the simple 2 line text format but I might just go with the 4 line text format for the Presidential C&C Dollars

It's my impression that ebay doesn't encourage 'buyers to contact sellers directly with offers--if the listing doesn't support offers up front. Just my impression...

eBay doesn't want people conducting sales outside of eBay

A seller can send a specific person an offer for any item they have for sale through eBay

It is a nice set for PF-68s, they have a lot of eye appeal

Which "his" . MY wife bought the set from the that blocked me so for full price so he didn't really lose anything

It is a nice set either way.

I agree and I'm having a hard time figuring out why they are 68s

I might just have to change the concept of my slab collection to include any grade as long as I like it

After all, I have seen some affordable 70s that I passed on because my target grade was 69

It was a BIN for $135 with no option to "Make an Offer"

I have messaged sellers many times over the years and made them offers

Some accept then, some counter, some pass

I have never had anyone politly say no and then block me

But after posting this I went to the second listing and asked the seller if he found the coins yet.

Then I realized they are not all PF 69s

SO I guess I dodged a bullet on that one

I saw this on eBay for $135 and thought "I would be willing to pay $120 for this to see what PF 68s look like"

So I sent the seller a question and he not only turned me down but he also blocked me from bidding or buying anything from him

I told my wife that he didn't accept my offer (but not about him blocking me) but it was not a big deal because I found a better set for a little more and they had the labels I wanted

I made that seller an offer and they accepted it within minutes but a couple days later that item got canceled because that seller couldn't find the coins

So my sweet wife decided to buy the first set for $141 shipped it showed up today - SURPRISE

It's a beautiful set but it's not 69s and I have mixed feelings about a seller that blocks a buyer over such an innocuous request

Plus I would have to get them reholdered with the standard brown labels for my Slab collection

I might consider selling the set but I doubt I could get $141 for it

I like the coins and could use the presentation case for something, someday

Hmmmm.

PCGS Web Site

https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin...-2007/396411

Once the 2008-W Reverse of 2007 Uncirculated Silver Eagle errors surfaced, the U.S. Mint evaluated their coin inventory and discovered that at least 15 reverse dies from 2007 were employed to strike the reverse design of 2008-W Silver Eagles. Since the Mint strikes approximately 3,000 coins per each set of dies for the Burnished Silver Eagles, there are approximately 45,000 - 2008 Silver Eagles with a Reverse design of 2007 in existence.

MyCoinGuides

https://silvereagleguide.com/2008-w...rse-of-2007/

The Reverse of 2007 Variety is the scarcer version of the coin and carries a big premium. Shortly after the discovery of the coin, the U.S. Mint estimated that approximately 47,000 of the variety may have been released. This estimate was based on the fact that West Point Mint employees found 15 dies with the reverse type of 2007.
The mintage estimate was later revised to 46,318 within a response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

From what I have read it was 15 dies

I don't know how that works but I assume there is more then one machine striking coins at any given time

This topic wasn't really about the facts of the issue, it was more about the historical conversations about the emergence of this issue.

After a lot of googling I found 3 topics, 2 from this forum and one from Coin Talk

These occured after the discovery, but I couldn't find any about when it was first discovered

I thought it would be interesting to read these with the knowledge of what eventually happened

I have read about how this happened from several sources but non really give any context as to how long the process of discovery lasted before it became fact.

Was anyone around during that time?

Are there historical topics about it?

I'm interested because I am going to submit three 2014 Native American Dollar Coins with the "Omitted Frost Details on the Reverse" for grading as possible errors or die variants

And I would love the see how the 2008/2007 ASE discovery process unfolded.

I don't know if it is possible but I would drop the redundant list of names per row and just go with a dated header row and centered set titles

I'm pretty sure Valley Coin might be able to work this out for him if he can't print the pages himeself

I love the collection but you might not love my following comment because you may have already considered this

Why didn't you just keep all 6 coins of the same person in a vertical row

Seems like the CAPS A Page was designed for that

6 rows and 5 columns

You could do the same set up for your inovation dollars in the T pages

I quickly photoshopped the first column of the first page to demonstrate

My two biggest peeves are when the coins are not facing straight up ("clocked" incorrectly)

I'm not sure of why this ever happens.

If I paid to have a coin graded and it came back obviously clocked wrong I would hope that the grader would fix it for free

I agree, slabbed coins can be a challenge to photograph.

Probably need to use indirect light

Boba Debt: Nice idea on the list in the lid box!

Thanks, it gave me a way to have additional info about the coins that NGC wouldn't put on my labels

After much deliberation I have decided to only reholder the more common coins of my collection with the current standard brown label

I want to get 3 ASEs - 1995 W Proof, 2008 with 2007 Reverse Variation and the 2019-S Enhanced Reverse Proof

I was really not wanting to send them in to get reholdered so my solution is to buy an example of each with the time frame appropriate Brown Label, which isn't that hard to do

Not a bad day on eBay :)

So are you jail breaking these?

Putting them into pages or boxes?

Or something else?

Most of my collection is in CAPS Binders

But the Bicentennial set made the cut for my very selective "NGC XX-69 Slab Collection" and I found a set graded at PF 69 Ultra Cameo for $135 on eBay

If anyone want the layout for the Word table I could post a screen cap

I just decided to add a 1776-1976 silver proof set to this collection
