I have to throw my 2 cents in regarding that other forum. While the shop is great, the forum attitudes are terrible. I never read so many rude and arrogant comments before I logged on. I don't post too often because my ego is not big enough to fit in with that bunch. The difference between this forum and the other one is the friendliness of other members. If I posted a dumb question, I know I'm going to get corrected not belittled. On the other forum I will be torn to pieces.

I mentioned to one of the moderators on that forum that I felt intimidated, and he acted shocked. To be honest, he is one of the good guys over there. But some of the others need to have an attitude adjustment as we used to say in the Army. This is my last word on the topic and I apologize to cosmokramer for us hyjacking his thread.

Regards to one and all,

I too have been a member of that other forum for a number of years and very seldom post there for the same reasons. I'm disabled and retired so I have a lot of time on my hands to work on my coins, read and visit this forum. The folks here are great are more a family than any of the other sites related to coins.

I for one am glad to have you all - The ancients section here was very quiet a year ago and now its not, long may it continue

I also think its very damming that everyone knows exactly which forum were talking about yet no names have been mentioned!

Well, lets all make sure this forum stays friendly and active. When people like cosmokramer posts a topic, if possible we should respond to the best of our abilities. Personally, I like to see the coins others have collected or are thinking about collecting. So, post those images and we can all discuss the pros and cons.

Hello JangoFett,

I'm sorry we have been so secretive about the other forum site, but I don't think its prudent to identify the other web site in open discussion. If you are curious about which site we are all talking about, PM me and I will provide the info. But, if you've not been on any other ancient coin forum, then you will not have experienced what we've been talking about. As Bobbyhelmet said though, the people at this other forum are or seem to be the experts in this field. The people here are family. Simple as that.

Thanks jw, bobby already told me which one it is. That being said, I'll be steering clear of THAT one!

I apologize for offending with what I considered a simple and honest question. This thread seems a clique rather than a family.

If that truly was the case then I apologise - I answered the question in the same abrasive manner it appeared to have been asked. Perhaps not posing that question and simply answering it yourself by providing the info would have been of most use to the OP and the other contributors? It would also have been the simplest way to deal with the original question.

Its not a clique, everybody is welcome regardless of knowledge or background as long as they are friendly. For future reference, and as you seem unsure, the above is an abrasive statement.

Doug, I believe everyone here has felt welcomed. From the guy who bought his first Ancient to the guy who is an expert at the tables and charts of Ancient coin collecting, to everyone in between. This whole discussion began with a question that had the connotation that others weren't doing due diligence. Perhaps that is not the way the question was intended, but that is how it was received. The discussion naturally weaved into the other discussion board and their superior attitude. But to say this board is a clique is beyond the pale. We all go out of our way to ensure all are welcome and no one is excluded. Just how is that a clique I might ask?

I appreciate the expertise you bring to the discussions here and hope this thread does not deter any of us from participating in future discussions. Without people like you, cosmokramer, JangoFett and all the others, this forum is diminished. I truly appreciate all of you. The beginner to the expert and the rest of us in between.

Regards to all,

JW

Here is a thread on that other forum that just confirms what I was saying. The originator of the thread is a newbe and look at the responses he/she got. I hope we can stay a little friendlier on this discussion board.

I read one this week where the OP posted a picture of a coin that he/she could not attribute as it had little detail left, they thought it could be Postumus. The first response was 'nice pice for my slug collection', so unnecessary and another member who will now probably not buy from their excellent shop.

People who use their vast experience and knowledge only to point out other peoples shortcomings from behind their keyboards like spoilt children are wasting their lives.
