First of all...This grading service is the bottom of the barrel. why people think of buying there ms 65 and 66 stuff is unreal... they are WAY over graded and problem coins that no one else will take. THIS COMPANY frequently is over 4 times the grade level.. BUYER BEWARE should be always attached to ANY LISTING here or any where...ESPECIALLIALY on ebay which lets this apple rotting infested coin grading company coins that "WILL and CAN NOT" make better than a body bagged problem coin... For $25 bucks (licence fee) I should start my own basement grading company...WHAT GRADE DO YOU WANT on the lable? IF you buying the grade and not the coin......you have some serious problems, LEARN the differences...and learn what the crappy grading companies are..I have no time to list them...

You have no time to list the grading companies to stay away from, but you had time to put ACG down and create your own grading company.... thanks?
I have this coin in my collection, and am looking to get it re-graded by a reputable service. I may end up going with ANACS, has anyone had a bad experience with them? I don't know if I have the volume to pay for a PCGS membership.

PCGS and NGC are the top TPG's for resale and ANACs and ICG are the other two that are considered legit grading companies. PCGS will slab coins with a 0 grade but the rest send it back with a details grade if there is something about the coin they dont like.

all these companies have their good and bad days with the grading. You can send it in to one company and get it graded then send it to another and get a different grade, maybe a point up or down. I prefer NGC and you can get a membership starting around $40 with NGC and $50 for PCGS if you choose the cheapest tier. I personally like NGC and ANACS the best. I like NGC because of their slab and details grading, and I've always liked ANACS for my medium/low grade coins. ICG is the new kid but I think they are a good company also. ANACS is the cheapest also so I prefer them when I dont send something to NGC. I dont like the PCGS 0-grade.

Very nice coin with good detail there, but is only a 63 or 64 IMO.

Kevin,
In my opinion, there are far too many marks on the obverse to grade at 65
I'd grade the reverse higher than the obverse for an overall MS 62. The grading companies mentioned might give you a 63.
That said, I'd say its value is between 75 and 150 dollars.
I see
- a possible rim imperfection at 12 o'clock, obverse rim - some possible corroding (not toning) from 12 to 2 o'clock on the obverse rim - heavy ding on the nose - lots of bag marks in the western section, obverse - some post-mint imperfection in the southeast, obverse - the reverse has fewer issues.
I think the discoloration (12 o'clock obv, 6 o'clock rev) is probably due to handling the coin with bare hands.
Can you give us a very close up of the date?

Close up of the date? Sure... And what post-mint imperfection do you see? In hand, the corrosion you mention between 12 and 2 looks to be toning to me, but I cannot see the edges of the coin.

Cali I am with the rest of the folks here. There is too many bag marks on the obverse to get an MS-65 grade. It is hard to tell from the pics but the chest feathers could have some wear which would indicate an AU coin. Sorry but you asked for opinions....

Looks like a 63+ or 64 in the images. Accugrade was the first company to slab coins in plastic holders and started back in 1984. Alan Hager founded the company and was one of the top silver dollar experts in the country at that time. He started out grading pretty accurately if a touch liberal. As time went by he got more liberal and left the slabbing business in the late 1980's after PCGS and NGC took over leadership in the field. Many of the coins in the type of Accugrade slab you have are 1 or 2 points overgraded. I recently traded for a large lot of S$1 in Accugrade's first generation (MS64) slabs and am very happy with them. Here's link to the thread. https://goccf.com/t/103747I wouldn't try to cross that coin unless the luster is absolutely blinding giving it an outside shot at 65.

Thanks BH, great post! Would you say getting it regraded is worth the money? Or just try to sell as is?

Assuming you are selling it for sure? I'd sell it "as is" and ask for $100. This is not a common date in choice mint state condition and your piece looks 63+ to me.
