I hate to hear that about your brother Sel, he seemed like a great guy. I always say...."In one hundred years from now when we are all dust once again, it will not matter if we were here, 20-50-or 75 years, just the fact that we got to be here an see the miracle of this universe is enough for me"
But with that being said, those who live 95 years like my uncles father who just past, after being healthy for 98% of this life, an bad off for the last three days, we all just are not that blessed....
Darth, come on down to my neck of the woods on Nov 4th and I will take you with me to the next one, as there is still 80% of the bulk collection to sell yet. As there is gonna be another sell 4th through the 6th, an this time I am gonna be there in an early slot....
I don't know where you live, as I am sure it is way to far to drive, but you never know, lol....
And Ed, I hope you are right as I was thinking the same thing! I am counting on it moving for 225 to 300 or so, and if it does, it will nearly pay for the rest of the estate sell spending's....

I'm not going to say you can't get someone to pay the price you want. But it is a common MPC set that has value of around $80. Most MPC sets are cheap sellers, there are some that go from $150 - $200. The problem with MPC sets is the quality which was the worse ever during the great long life of the Lionel train. While like I said there is some interest in the MPC years they generally are the cheapest Lionel trains to get. They were plagued with poor construction, weak cheapo motors, plastic trucks and sometime non operating couplers. Set that bring in the money are from the Post War. Good luck I have seen people bid way to much on ebay before and I hope they do for you. This is one of the last larger group I bought at an auction, all the mpc sets which you can see one were sold for $75. In order to make money I had to get them for cheap.

Mk, you are a fountain of info and I like that, lol. Thanks for that, it is all great to know! Great pictures....
You say post war most popular, and cash wise, curious why?
I would expect pre-World War 2 models to bring the most in good shape an complete, via older, survived the World War 2 melt down for weapons, etc......
Amazing collection you seem to have there as well, very nice!

You can use this as a guide.
Pre war went from 1901-1942. A lot of these were tin but not all. No trains were made during WWII.
Post war went from 1945-1969 at which Lionel went bankrupt and sold the brand name Lionel. Popular due to the baby boomers who all grew up with Lionel under the Christmas tree.
MPC went from 1970 to 1988, low quality and some manufacturing done in Mexico.
Modern 1989 - present.

I sold another robot for 200, and tossed an off out on a 1965 Lionel which appears to have all cars an track an power source for 125, and they accepted it.... The pictures are bad, the first shot just shows engine. That is huge, as no one spotted the nice box an complete or near complete set I bet like I did 1965 model, and it is a new listing and the seller is clueless about trains. Said they are in better than good shape, and you can see that from the photo's at least.... It is a gamble like anything, as I only counted 10 pieces of track, an not sure if it is enough with only two straight pieces, but who knows. And it may not work. But, if it works, and has all the track an most pieces, I think I did real good at 125 bucks.... What do you think M.K.? I saw a similar one with just engine an cars in o.k. shape for 150 total, so it couldn't be to bad if it works, and could only find like 3 or 4 examples as well, so not exactly growing on trees..... http://www.ebay.com/itm/30060427423....m1439.l2649That looks like real nice example of a 1965, which is what almost 47 years old, and I wanted a loose one to mess around with for a project train. May need to add some pieces, that will be fine, if I can find them, lol. And if it does not work, I will have a real project to try an fix it....

It is the Scout Four Car Freight Set. This is an uncatalogued set from the 1966 / 1967 era. Lionel used the word Scout to denote its entry-level 027 steam locomotives. Generally speaking, Scout engines had a 2-4-2 wheel arrangement and were reserved for beginner or starter sets. Price range for the one on ebay depending on grade can be between $100 - $185.

I said I was gonna sell my items which are made with Pm's to add more Pm's, like gold or silver. I know I am a ranter, but you gotta read it all, lol.... Tough situation once your out of school, and the safety patrol and hall monitor jobs are a thing of the past eh , lol. JK Ken-Northern most section of Georgia .... Mk, beginner train you say, and it is about 45 years old, which will be perfect for me, as I know next to nothing about trains. Even though I did have an early 80's Lionel I got for Christmas when I was real young, say 6 or 7, and I recall hooking it up and running it around, great childhood memories there....

I have a 1939 Lionel set. It was bought for my dad's first Christmas. Haven't set it up in probably 10 years, but we used to always put it up at Christmas time when I was growing up. Found the set on ebayhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Prew...em19c9729fb5My dad must have added a red dump car because I don't see that in the auction.

That is one great post war Lionel GRR, and some great pictures! way out of my price range for now, but I am sure the hard core collectors of the post war stuff are plotting to get it, lol....
It must be real rare to find that Sears tin train set, in that solid of condition. As I would figure not too many of those survived, being made of tin and all. As one would think they are pretty fragile. Again, I know next to nothing about trains, but I am sure MK, could add some great info on that rare set. Good luck with it!

What do you think about this one MK, in the link below, way over priced I figure? What do you think of this most rare complete Norfolk an Western set I found. It seems the engine came out in 1980, and the rest of the cars came out over the next 10 years or so. First one I found with all the cars, man that is one of the nicest looking trains I think I have found yet. I am sure this one is way over priced.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/37054791060....m1438.l2649This guy above has ever train many company's ever made I bet, amazing collection. Two 17 grand sets, pre war and 70's through 2000, and the post war collection is listed at 80 grand, lol. A train museum needless to say I have found here, the train king, lol.... I also grabbed another train an coal car. A 1980 8002 Lionel 2-8-4 Union Pacific Berkshire steam engine and tender, real close to dead mint, C-9 it was listed. I got it for 175 total, and they seem to list for about $325 in similar shape with box, so a good buy I'm amateur O, lol. A real beauty of a train....

It wasn't my personal set on ebay. I have mine at home. Was just saying the one in the auction is the same set. We have a few more cars. A red dump car for sure.

Alright guys, I am real excited to see what looks like some great train sets in this new batch of pictures for the Estate sale#2 this Friday.... http://etnestatesales.com/upcoming-...-part-1.htmlIf you see any items of major interest in these NEW PICTURES, or something you think I can do real well on, let me know an I will pick it up. Also, if anyone sees something they would like, let me know an if I can get if for a fair price an you cover that an shipping, then I will grab it for ya! I already spotted a Hersey train set that will go for maybe 150 to 175 on ebay if MIB, and a Crescent limited edition Lionel, a great green colored train I know from research, even though there is just a picture of the title an foam insert it is in. They are asking 250, they go for buy it nows mint with all the box for 325, so that is way to high. I will have to make a fair offer for a bundle lot that I put together on the fly, lol.... I also see a Lionel Southern Express set that does not seem to be bringing much on the two I found on ebay, and a rare 1996 Holiday express Santa train set, that is listed at 140. I can get it for 100 I am sure, an this older sets lists on ebay for 375 buy it now an 25 shipping, and there is one running on auction that is up to 150 on 20 bids, as those are the only two from 1996 I could fine. The modern ones go for 200 an 25 more shipping. It seems to be popular, esp with Christmas, so I am going for it at 100 bucks. There is another great Bachmann set behind others I can't see, and a bunch of old die-cast cars an planes from the 80's back to the 40's or 50's. So there has to be some diamonds in the ruff in these pictures so to speak.... MK buddy, I need your advice on anything you see in the train pictures more than ever my friend, thanks much!
