It is a bit bigger than a regular quarter and also includes is a full-colour booklet looking back at 75 years of CBC/Radio-Canada's landmark moments, innovations, and icons. Kinda cool if you're a CBC fan!

They make any coin just to make a few bucks

Yeah, isn't that a stupid idea. Let's strike a few coins just to lose a few bucks.

75 years of CBC is a pretty big deal. Public radio was once the be all and end all of broadcasting, and the CBC is still the (only) free station to go to if you don't want just mind-numbing loops of music. 75 years is not a round 100 but it IS a lifetime for the lot of us.

These Nickel coins that are coming out tho are so much for so little. Like $30 I could buy a specimen set from the 1970-1980's with that money which looks better on my shelf. I hope they bring down the prices for these type of coins

The CBC should be celebrated. It is better than lots of other media.

It will fit well in my international topical collection of radio coins.

Now that is a specialized collection. :p How many coins with radios are there? :)

lol... that-a-boy! At least the RCM doesn't throw away gold dust and bits or lose track of them. :p
But the RCM is profitable. I guess if you like the history of coins and craftsmanship you would be pretty worried as the quality seems to go down as the quantity of coin designs goes up. I have no problem with the quantity of collector coins in this regard as long as quality and the artwork remains high.
There seems to be a focus on "gimmicks". The RCM hasn't put out glitter coins, scratch and sniff coins, tritium glow the dark ones yet. The RCM has to be profitable but if they get too out of hand and dilute the craft or perceived investment/worth/collectablity they could stop being profitable all together.

But for this particular coin the artwork is fine, the CBC is worth celebrating or at least it's past was.

realpenny you nailed it. I also find that quality has come down. Most notably, the uncirculated sets. I also believe that the super heavy frosting now used by the RCM is a way to hide production defects or to extend the life of the dies. But that's just a theory.

^^^ I agree. It is clear quality has gone down big time. A lot of recent NCLT coins will never stand the test of time... the quality is too low and anyone who looks at a bunch of coins for awhile will notice this instantly.

Simple tip for the RCM: If you look at a coin in hand then look at it under some low magnification and it looks way worse.... your quality sucks! Under magnification you should see detail not a blur.

I collect quarters one of my favs, but I won't bother with the oversize it,s just not a quarter it's a coin/token with 25 cents on it. Same as the bird series and Ann of Green Gables, no interest.Won't go in an album.

I agree with bmxboy, 30 bucks is too much for this. I mainly collect quarters and I do like the design of this but I think my money will be better spent on something else. I might buy it when Canada post sells off old stock for half price.

Just came across this blog post and video from CBC Radio-Canada...

Their crew came in to our Sussex location to capture the making of the 75th Anniversary of CBC/Radio-Canada coin and I thought you might find it a good Sunday morning watch! It's only a minute and a half so no worries if time is of the essence!
