Yeah I like your idea jw, I'll make them an offer. Actually, should I ask instead whats the lowest they'll sell it for? Even if they won't budge I'll still most likely buy it; I've been wanting a Chi-rho Roman coin for a LONG time and have been looking high and low on the internet for a cheaper one but haven't found one.
BTW, jw, since you know the internet location of the coin, do you know by any chance if they ship to the US? I sent them an email asking but haven't received a reply yet.

Yes, they will ship to U.S. And as to whether to ask before you offer, I've found this doesn't work very well. Instead, I would offer 15% or 20% less then the asking price which would give them room to counter offer at about a 10% discount. Most of these dealers don't have large margins to work with, so getting a 10%-20% discount is about all one can expect. If they come back firm, then the decision is yours to make. I have dealers who readily accepted an offer and others who will not even discuss it. My bottom line here is that it doesn't hurt anyone to ask. I know you have been looking for some time now so good luck and keep us informed.

Woke up a little early so I checked my email. I had sent them an offer of $35 plus shipping and they agreed!  I know I only saved like $8 but hey I'm not complaining! This little guy is coming across the pond to grace my collection!  In addition to finally getting a Chi-rho coin, I also got my first usurper, so  Thanks everyone for commenting and thank you jw for helping me obtain this coin for a good price! I'll post pics when it arrives! |

Good on ya! I just made an offer of 75% of the original asking price of a nice coin and it was accepted. I will be posting that coin later today when I have some time. Again, congrats for reaching your two milestones.  JW |

Thanks! Shipping was a little more than anticipated  (just got invoice), but hey I still saved a bit of change. Can't wait to see your coin jw! Edit: On it's page it now says sold (to me!) Edited by VisigothKing

BTW just wondering, have you bought from my source (of my Magnentius) before? Since you knew that they shipped to the US.

I've been buying quite a few coins lately so not sure if I'll decide to try and pick this one up. Very tempting though  . But I've added to my watch list just in case. Thanks jw. |
