Quote: This is Overton 102 Rarity 2. The only variety where UNITEDSTATES runs together with very small space between the words. The 9 shows recutting at right side. OOPS! It is Overton 110 R.2, not 102. My bad.

Yeah, I use numismedia. But without the grade, it's hard to value. The dealer said it was VF but I don't know how to grade the Cappped Bust. But thank you for all your help.

I missed what you mentioned about the edge the first time I read your post. I hope the edge does not actually say "Liberty Cents Half Dollar" because as Jeffrose had already mention it should be "FIFTY CENTS OR HALF DOLLAR" with a star between dollar and fifty. If it really does combined by the bubbly surfaces which also show up in the first 4 picture and some mushiness in some of the details, I am leaning more towards counterfeit.

I thought it said Liberty but it says Fifty. And the surface is not bubbly in hand or under scope. I think it's the camera.

Any experts with an idea of the grade?

I wouldn't go much over F12 for this coin - the reverse feathers don't justify VF. I am really concerned about the obverse, though - the cheek and rear of the face simply should not look like that. Here's an example at a similar wear level for reference:

I see what you're say SuperDave. Mine looks like her throat was cut. I am horrible at taking pictures. I can take 20 pictures and they all looks different. Is your picture a scan? Maybe I should try to scan mine.

My image was done with a dSLR/dedicated macro lens.
I'm not ready to call your coin a counterfeit; it's just....odd. Your photography is plenty good enough to accurately represent the oddness. I'm wondering if it's a flaw in the original planchet.

I would hope that it is not counterfeit. I bought it off of a dealer who I've been seeing at the coin show for the past 4 months. He is a very nice guy and even told me to beware of counterfeits before buying coins off ebay or other raw coins. I like the idea of the flaw in the original planchet. My goal with collecting is to collect as many different types of US coins as possible. I don't really care about years, key dates, or varieties as much. And I thought this one was perfect for my album right next to the Seated Liberty half. I have 5 coupons for free grading at ANACS but I'm not sure if I should send it in. I prefer raw coins over slabbed so I can display them all in the same binder. (Although I'm sure jbuck would suggest sending it in, then breaking out of the slab).

I'm wondering if anyone else has an opinion on grade or the "oddity" the superdave pointed out.

It does not look right to me, with the pitted fields and very soft impression I feel that this coin is a cast fake.

Would a cast fake have the lettering on the edge?

Hi! I'm a novice. How do you determine if sm. or lg. letters?

This coin does not look genuine to me.
