Looks like I have been outvoted . So "Cleaned" it is.
I like the little coin anyway
I've got a few of these some with britania and some with a little wren on them.
500?

I have seen quite a few salmon coloured farthings of this period in EF or thereabouts. It is not really an area of interest for me and so I can't make an expert comment. I have also seen quite a few salmon coloured farthings of this period, that seem to be coated in a clear lacquer, but I have never really paid that much attention.

I do have a 1902 farthing in gem uncirculated (MS 64 or 5) that is a purple black colour. They were issued by The Royal Mint like this, having being treated with sodium thiosulphate to darken them, so that they could be more readily seen apart from the half sovereign of the time.

Trout, can we have a larger pic of the first farthing? I've seen plenty that are this colour and can't dismiss this as cleaned without closer examination.

Thanks,
Bob

(shivering because the central heating has just gone bagerap and a new pump is going to take two days to get here!)

these are the best I can do on my old scanner.
It's a better pic and you can see some of the lustre still there, I don't know what the black bit is on it.
You blokes still calling it "cleaned"?

Looks like it wasn't cleaned, my bad...

though the small sections of lustre on some of the other ones confuse me a bit, but I don't know if they're cleaned or not.
Rest in Peace
