If you really look closely you will see bag marks and circulation scratches all over this coin. EXCEPT in the area of the anomaly. Which in my opinion has been added after mint, glue or whatever it is did not come from the mint or it would bear the same amount of damage as the rest of the coin. definatly PMDollop

Well , the saga continues....the black bits actually cleaned off quite easily..there are hollows to those shapes on the coin.... do you think I could hit it with acetone?

i dip all my coins in acetone to remove grease and oils etc. I'm just not sure, the gloss could only come fom some sort of glue, or lacquer, but I guess it could be a flawed blank that got through somehow. but I would go with its something strange.

i just recalled an old paint stirrer I have, was used to stir shellac many many years back and nothing since, it has a similar appearance to the coin and it is a strip of copper earth strip/band ( I dont recall proper name now) used in power stations

I have been caught out by glue before. A rather unusual error coin turns out to be nothing noteworthy at all. Bugger! Jeff

Don't be embaressed larena, If you don't ask you will never know the answer. Thats what this forum is about asking questions and getting answers. I'm just a collector , not an expert but there are a heck of a lot of experts on this site more than willing to give you their opinions on whatever your question is. Keep asking and you will be amazed what you will learn at the end of the day
