Just checking: only the city of Rome was allowed to mint silver coins at that time, am I right?

As far as I know you are correct?

Quote: Nice nose. I doubt that Domitian has plastic surgery but it is interesting how the coins struck while Vespasian and Titus were alive show him with the family nose but the later ones as Augustus are not as hooked. I don't know which is correct. I know I posted this coin a couple of weeks ago so I will only attach the obverse image. I would suspect he had a typical Roman nose but later during his reign the die makers changed his profile to tone it down (probably at his insistence).

I thought Romans generally favored the Roman nose? Or did Domitian himself just not like it and so had it less prominent on his coins during his rule? BTW nice obverse on your coin jw.

It just arrived today! But I'm too lazy right now to post my own pics sooo.... basically in hand it kind of has that polished silver look but all the detail shown in the seller's pic is there and overall, I am happy with it. Anyone want to take a shot at guessing how much I paid?

Come on up! Don't be shy! I won't mind if the guesses are too low or high.

I might be lowballing here, but it's only because I hope you got a deal--nice portrait details! $40? Here is an example I've been eyeing--any guesses as to price/value?

I guess I did get a deal on it! Purchased this bad boy for $39! Shipped!
Great coin you just posted. Awesome detail and nice toning. I'd say $75 for it, but I think I am low and I wouldn't be surprised if the price was higher.

We both 'guessed low'--and nailed the price--good one! I think that Domitian is good deal for $78, but I can wait...since I bought a Greek today.

Thanks DV! I think $78 a real nice price for it, no doubt about it. Definitely jump on it when you get the chance.

Yeah...I might just get it. It has everything I look for--high relief, detail, good centering and legends. Just like your coin--except with a little less wear. Then again, wear looks good on well-struck Romans.
