Quote: that coin might be worth thousands it is a double die coin OK so first, It is Double d Die not double die. One pair of dies NOT two. Second this coin is not doubled. Very nice coin though Vago you should be very happy! Nice that your grandpa had the forethought to save these. coin is worth melt value... as an aside 1922dubledie, please hesitate to respond if you are not sure....at least make it clear that it is your opinion and not fact.....just sayin'

you should ask some one else. that is a great coin man don't sell it at any antique shop they will ripe you off. you should get it slabbed.

ok, if I hold it in my hand, it doesn't seem double at all, so my guess is that the scan that I take doesn't really reflect to the image very well, scanned at 600 dpi and turned up detail very high and the scans above are what you see...

thanks...
What I make out of this (and I'm completely not into this...) is that it's worth 910$ if I look at the Very good grade from 1911. Not sure what the differences are with regular 1911/proof/S/D... so I follow the regular 1911 row and come up with that

Yes you are correct. The S and D would be mint marks (San Francisco and Denver) your coin has no mark so it was minted in Philladelphia.

You know..... I know nothing about gold coins..... but this is a very interesting conversation. it might be Machine Doubling. it might be a double die. but its not a doubled die.

I think it is around EF-40 to EF-45. Not worth a whole lot more than melt. I am not sure what you are seeing 1922dubledie, but I am not seeing it.
