nice pics cladhunter. your last one is the worm and the 68 is the same as the ones lve found :)

Thank you. I will have to take new pics of the coins. These were taken with my old camera and I want to try with my new camera or maybe the microscope. The first is a pic I took through a 30X Loupe that I adapted to fit over the old cameras lens. I will need to remake it for the new camera. I should make a difference going from the old Kodak 4MP to the new Canon 16MP.

Was it different dies or just cracks and chips that led to these defects? Also what is it about this type of defect that gets them labeled variety? If it is just a issue of numbers found how many coins alike are needed to make it a variety?

It's odd...looks like a pool of copper between the branch and the bud...and two dips in it...odd eh?

There are different causes for them. Some are a result of hub doubling, some are die chips, some die cracks. Some are recognized varieties, like the 64 extra spine, the 65 extra bud etc. As far as how many it takes to get that classification lm not sure but maybe someone else will know that.

Here is some hub doubling on the leaf.

There are extra spines, extra buds and worms and now hub doubled leafs. I have posted a 1971 and two 1964s in my album.

The one l am most proud of so fai is the '57 extra spine. After searching countless rolls l found 5 of them, all high grade but brown. I recently bought 5 more rolls of '57s (all BU) and found 4 more. So now l am up 9 of them found. As of yet l havent heard of anyone else finding one. I will try to post a better pic of it this weekend.
