The auction should be shut down fairly quickly, as soon as the first person doesn't receive anything (maybe sooner)and reports it. Just google it, and you will see where this exact and very similar listings have appeared multiple times on ebay. By different sellers of course. As long as there are people out there that will fall for this type of thing they will continue to appear. I've never understood how these types of listings have success, and have always wondered what ppl are thinking when they bid on/buy them. Ask yourself, why would a legitimate person selling legitimate silver dollars sell them for three dollars a piece when they are worth ten times that? If you are for some reason studying fake/counterfeit/chinese Morgan dollars buy them off ebay from a seller that sells them as such.

Sorry, was typing this when you added that the listing has been removed. Glad to see it gone, good work.

I usually wouldn't "fall" for such a scheme, except that I do have an active interest in identifying and documenting counterfeits, so I was figuring it was "win win" for me. I didn't even anticipate a third "no show" option.

I also guess that most of the other buyers were in the "perhaps he put the decimal point in the wrong place" camp. :-)

I see what you are saying. I hope you get your money back quickly. You should have it back within 7 days or so I think.

Listing removed by ebay. I'll bet they'll tighten things up if they have to pay off a few guarantees.

Someone posted about a friend who bought ten similar lots for $4000 and already paid. Never heard if ebay honored their guarantee.

I'll need links and examples if I am to report this successfully, though. Does anyone have any?

ebay is no longer allowing such sales. Forget the exact date it takes effect, feb 12 maybe?

Which falls under "unjust enrichment" and no court will enforce such a mistake.

Maybe, but considering these auctions have been popping up for months you would think they'd have already tightened up.

They did tighten up, the ones from brand new users have pretty much stopped. Now they're using hijacked accounts. The advantage to that (for them) is that if its an established account (even if dormant for a while) they can use the immediate payment required option.

Well, I just called in to ebay and asked if they could push my refund through since it was found to be illegitimate. They said that I would have to "wait and follow procedure," but that means I'm going to get my money back in a week. :-P
