I wouldn't expect series 2 to rise as fast as the first one does though, dragon or not. There is an appeal to the millennium year and the first dragon for the series that the current offering will not be able to match.
I've also heard very positive reviews of Provident Metals. But, a few very negative reports of their shipping service (not the cost, but their security), are causing me to step back

I have purchased from both APMEX and Provident several times (as well as SilverTowne) and have never had a security issue of any kind. My shipments always come VERY securely and anonymously wrapped and they always require an adult's signature for delivery. No muss, no fuss, and NO problems. Not sure what you heard but whatever it was, I haven't seen it in any of my business dealings with any of these companies. They have this down to a science as far as I can tell.

maybe I'm just hearing from the unlucky few then, with their lost packages and automatic assumption that buyers opt for cheaper shipping service versus more secure options. That said though, reviews of their customer service in such events were all wonderful.

Good call Pobox on that 2nd series, as you are indeed a great source of information an right up at the top, for nicer end silver an gold items, as well as unique coin currency throughout the entire stinkin planet, as your world round 1 oz. thread clearly shows....
With that being said, I still think they will have sought after collector group, but like you say they probably will not fork out the money ever in the amounts they do for the first 12 year run of coins....
Still, guys buy them at Provident, an turn right back around an immediately list them for at-least a hundred more then what they got them at Provident, and I bet they sell pretty decent, even though I have not looked at the closed auctions list for those new 2nd series 10 oz. Lunar dragons....

I have mainly purchased American Eagles and rounds and bars for several years now, but yesterday I received my first batch of 2011 silver maples. I am completely blown away. They look almost like reverse proofs and are absolutely stunning. Next month I am for sure getting some of these moose coins. I wish I had bought some Canadian coins sooner.

I have a couple of each of the wildlife series so far and I plan on adding the Moose when it becomes available. I will also second that the silver maples are beautiful coins in hand. I am currently working on filling my Dansco album for them.

Quote: maybe I'm just hearing from the unlucky few then, with their lost packages and automatic assumption that buyers opt for cheaper shipping service versus more secure options. That said though, reviews of their customer service in such events were all wonderful. Perhaps so. Since all of these shipments are insured, a lost package should be a problem for the seller and not the customer. Also, they do require a signature from the customer, so if there is any doubt about who received what, one can always ask to see a copy of the signed receipt. Oh, they don't have one for this order? Well then, that IS their problem! I also have not seen a lot on these web sites about various shipping options. From my experience, they choose the shipping method. From Provident's own web site, we have: Quote: "A majority of orders are shipped via USPS. FedEx, UPS and Brinks are also used on occasion at our discretion. If you would like to use a specific shipping service, please contact Customer Service at (877) 429-8790 for a custom shipping quote." OK, so they can do special shipping, if ordered, but I suspect that most of their customers just take whatever shipping is standard to help keep costs low. These are still secure methods of shipment. The last thing any PM business wants is unhappy customers who do not order more products from them. I can see where you might be skeptical about the raves about their business on the web site of any company. It would be easy enough to delete any that were uncomplimentary. Word of that would get around, though, and pretty quickly too. We Internet folks are not a bit shy about criticizing those who deserve it.

Mint Products is also a very nice place to buy coins from as well. I like APMEX but their prices and shipping are always way more than others.

FYI, Gatewest Coin's website states the Moose bullion starts shipping on March 1. I'd imagine other sites will ship then as well.

Quote:I like APMEX but their prices and shipping are always way more than others. Yes, they can be sometimes but I like the fact that APMEX sells quite a few US 90% silver coins in the nicer grades. I prefer BU, AU, and XF/VF in that order. I like coins that look nice and enjoy looking at my collection from time to time. It's worth a little more to me to enjoy that experience. Also, APMEX, like others, has some items on sale from time to time at pretty good prices. Recently, they were offering PAMP 1-oz. gold bars at spot + $35. That's a pretty decent price. They could reduce their shipping costs a bit, though.

Quote: I suspect that most of their customers just take whatever shipping is standard to help keep costs low. Fed-Up and Oops will contract with large accounts. The savings can be stunning. Couple examples: Diamond Comics Distributors dumped their 20-odd distribution centers and delivery fleets and had Oops handle most of their 10,000+ weekly packages. It wasn't unusual to get two or three 20-30# boxes with shipping less than you or I could ship a #1 package. Amazon lets customers piggyback on their account. I sent a fairly heavy oversized package of toys to their Fulfillment by Amazon (they warehouse and ship your inventory). They issued a pickup for them, my shipping cost was 37% lower than book rate by USPS.

Even the lowly USPO will ship high-volume junk mail for MUCH less than any of us can actually mail a letter. I get about 20 pieces of mail a week. In most cases only 1-2 of them is actually something that I want or need. The rest is just useless tree-killing junk.
