Congrats on taking the plunges into Greek coins, I haven't got the nerve to do it yet. This is a very nice coin, and knowing your knack for the good deal I would say you paid Between $75-$90.

Well, then perhaps I did OK. I paid $62.50 for the coin. A little less than what most of you thought. Thanks for all the kind remarks. Now I have to figure out how to attribute these beauties. This one came fully attributed, but I would like to have the knowledge to look these things up to at least verify the seller's information.

Very nice Greek coin JW. Nice images on both sides with an especially nice portrait.

Thanks Steve--the info I have has come slowly from research--Google helps me out a lot! My fake-finding is basically a time-consuming search for matches--anyone who's buying coins should try it.

Nice buy JW. I AM NOT SURPRISED! .... at the price! You do so well in that area. Did you do an offer or was that the original price?

Quote: Did you do an offer or was that the original price? It was an auction. I set my limit and actually got it under that amount. So I am pleased. This with the Cherronesos Hemidrachm set me back nearly $100, but I now have my first Greek coins.

The Greek coins are very nice, with great style and such, but I think I am still much more comfortable with the Roman coins. I don't think I will ever have many Greek coins, not at all like the Roman coins. I am, for lack of a better word, a Roman-phile. Not just the coins, but the history as well.
Regards,

Interesting...I enjoy the higher-relief of Greek coins, as well as their mythological/natural subjects. Roman coins focus more on their rulers and military successes, which has limited interest to me. In any case, ancients have enough variety to appeal to nearly everyone.
