Thanks guys, CC-Ottawa and Commems....
it seems to be the expenses related to the low mintage, specifically if it Silver Dollar that traditionally has tens of thousands units minted.
So basically, twice in a decade, years ending by 5 and 0, we can expect something nice commemorative, related to the Victory or Remembrance. And these coins really have to be among the best.

I was lucky than to get a pr69 NGC graded enamel poppy for $129, it was a colonial acre auction in summer. It and the war of 1812 are among my favorite coins. I'm slowly working on my silver dollar and silver proof set collection. Another really nice coin is the gilded 2006 silver dollar ( Victoria Cross). It took over a yr to get this proof set for $80. Hopefully someone will post pics, I can't get it to work for me. Great thread, I have several of the coins. I enjoy the history of them! The copper medallion is absolutely gorgeous, one day may add the silver proof. At CC your photos are outstanding,I drool over the detail you capture. How about starting a thread sharing some tips on how you're able to capture the images so well!!

According to Haxby, the release price of the 2010 Poppy one dollar coin was $139.95 with a current book value of $285.00. A rather expensive coin.

Quote:@CC-Ottawa: The RCM Annual Report shows 4,975 for the 2010 Poppy Dollar. Do you have an updated source? Thanks. Charlton Volume Two 3rd edition, 2013 shows 4907 for the 2010 Enamelled Poppy.

I like the 2005 V-E Day nickel because it ties back to the 1943-45 "V" Victory nickels.

Another of my favourites from the War Monuments series, though I find it hard to get a good pic of it.

The 2010 navy centennial loon is also nice. I just got one in change a few days ago. Yay, it took me 30 minutes to figure how to optimize and post the image. I'm happy I've learned a new skill!!

Lostwords: Gatewest still has them for $18.95 in the RCM Annual report. I've always liked the coin and as far as I know it is the only way it was released. Proof Sterling silver with gold plating.

Very disturbing news coming out from Ottawa...specifically, by the National War Memorial - condolences to the soldier's family. Soldier shot, stood-on-guard for the unknown soldier - very sad, extremely disturbing.

Updated: removed "I agree" icon, cause it smiles.
Very sad.
Imo whoever did it and was involved deserves an execution on public on the same place.

That would only desecrate the 'unknown soldier epitaph'.
a non-descript disposal with no fanfare what so ever is more fitting these kind of atrocities.
