Wow that is a great deal! Nicely done an he probably didn't mind to give you a deal to move that silver an make some himself....

Not that unusual at all to see one person who is an expert in one genre (like sports memorabilia or goods), to have other items they come across in life an sell from their store front and mostly as you mentioned, on ebay. I once bought a 4 oz. Detroit Red wing silver round an only 250 minted to celebrate their 1997 cup win over the Flyers in 4 games from seller on ebay that was also a sporting goods store in Michigan where the coin was no doubt for sale. An often bought from sellers with other sports card an such like signed items for sale....

I did see an interesting post here most recently here in this section about many leaving ebay due to the fees, to find better grounds elsewhere where they can sell for free. He mentioned a site, and it escapes my mind now. To my point, it can't have the exposures that one gets with the world wide audience on ebay. Now that does not mean that is not a great idea worth looking into, an really IF the same item you ran on ebay got the exact same action an bid totals that it drew on one of these lesser known sites, then why not....

In which case if it did produce the same amount of money say on 100 oz. of the exact same 100 oz. that ebay brought, an you made out better via no lost 14% to ebay an its little brother pay-pal which is owned by, you guessed it ebay, then it is a no brainer.....

That person with the little sports store struggling an praying he has enough business come through the doors each month to keep the lights on an the staff an other bills paid knows the value of selling on ebay. An probably would have sold them there an made a wee bit more with a wee bit more trouble to list an ship and of course wait to collect, but he was saved by just the lucky chance of fate of you an him crossing paths an he gladly took a little loss to move them asap. As advertisement did not lead you his way....

Being able to buy scrap an coins from people at a far below retail price, is the real value in having a store front if it is a coin/pawn shop say for example, IF you can keep the bills paid an doors open....

An that is not easy in this world where anyone with half a lick of computer sense can sit on their couch, pay their internet, get a comp an digi camera an sell on ebay for way less overhead....

HE actually has tons of business. there is this new phenomenon now. He was telling me that he has tons of people comeing in gambling. There are companies who sell boxes that have random lots of cards with autographs. Specifically one I remember was a box that costs $265 and you receive 5 cards. they are autographed but it is a gamble on what cards you have. He said he sells boxes like this all day long. kids come in and rip one open after another and their parents are paying for it. He has said some people have done pretty well with the outcome and made their money back.

Wow that is great to hear, as I love for the small business owner to make it. Its just sad that too often then not, they don't make it. Hopefully he can keep changing with the times an continuing to do what he needs to in order to keep selling those cards. More power to him an anyone smart enough to survive in this modern day most unforgiving world great story....

The guy's name wouldn't happen to be Monty Hall, would it?

I was one of those kids in the 1990's who bought those "gamble" boxes of baseball cards. Wish someone had turned me on to silver then. To this day, I do not trust card dealers as a result of all thousands I spent on cards.

Now, please show us some photos of these silver art bars. I am worried that he may has sold you one of those counterfeit pieces. Especially since you mentioned he was active on ebay.

When I was buying them as a kid the box had hundred of cards. Now they are paying over a hundred with the hours of geting one really good card out of 5.

As an auction site. A real auction house with 40% sell-thru would be out of business in six months.

If other sites have fewer customers than ebay, it doesn't matter, since you have to use fixed prices on either.

@silvercoinrn I am still concerned about the validity of the silver art bars you received and hope you will take the time to post pictures.

The quickest an easiest way to get a picture sized right, is simply open the picture with your basic "paint" program, and up in the tool bar you will see what I think is called "image adjustment." When you click on it, it basically gives you two boxes for the width an height, which has the number 100 in each box. Simply change those setting to 25 each from 100, an save the CHANGES in in you "my picture" file or whatever. Then it will load up here, or atleast be small enough to load up in the sites size adjustment section....
