How about drilling a hole slightly smaller than the encasement, then pushing the coins through the hole with a dowel or other non-scratching pusher?

That's a coin that has been banged to a smaller diameter.

This is a bezel around a full-sized coin(s).

What seems strange to me is how Dooly's coins are larger than the genuine coins of that date.
Surely there was only one size ever minted?

The weights do not quite add up but if you had a half penny from 1806/7 (or similar) between the 2 farthings and then hammered the edge of the half penny to flatten this down and form a holder this may produce something like what you have.

I was looking to see if there was a visible join in your collar to show that a strip of metal had been wrapped around but could not see anything.

How do you figger they're larger? If a normal coin is inside a bezel, it will be larger, but the coin didn't change.

Makes no sense to me. Hiding a gold piece makes sense.

If a ha'penny is spooned down, the edge curls up. I don't see where there would be enough raised rim on both sides to put a farting on each side, then close the rim over the edges of them.

Even if it could be done, why? Making a ring is a goal. Mounting two fartings inside a ha'penny serves no purpose.

Thought I had it for a second

put a half 1806 between two 1806 farthings and it's about the same thickness

But when I tried them on the scales they were 2.64g shy

then put on on top of a half penny and it looks like there would just be too much metal around the edge

BiggFredd; if you look at the pics on post 8 (coins pictured on finger) measuring them on the screen shows the bezelled coins to be larger than the genuine ones. I believe the OP mentioned this somewhere? Could be wrong though.
Mike.

1) Even if the weight was right, what would be the purpose?

2) A hidden gold piece would be a reason, and being denser, account for the weight.

Certainly looks like 2-3 smaller coins hidden in the bezel. Opening it is the only simple way to find out.
