jessvc1: Don't be hard on your coin. Any facing bust Christ portrait coin with eyes, nose and mouth not worn away is a keeper!

Happy birthday oxos - btw, both of your coins are better than my Romanus III example.

Very nice coin. As soon as I feel a little better I'll start posting some Byzantine coins. Happy Birthday.

Thank you all! I'm really happy with the first Byzantine. Of course, I didn't pick it out my brother did, so good on him for me! Hope all had a great Memorial Day!

Here are a few more byzantine coins. These are low grade examples but just a few types that you can get farely cheap in this condition. These guys where very religious so these are actually some of the best coins to collect with Christian symbols and reference's to Jesus Christ. This first coin is a grasshopper coin(it looks like two grasshoppers). It's got a nice chi-rho on the reverse.

I like the larger follis coins and these don't look the best but once you get the feel of these coins they are not too bad. Better coins can get pricey. I am getting some very nice coins next month so I thought I would bring some pictures of my coins out.

Thanks for sharing those Jessvc1, they are very interesting and unusal. I have been looking on ebay at some of the offering in the Byzantine department. They have some pretty big coins they minted. Like yours some are well over 30mm. And to, the more detailed the more expensive. Of course that seems similar to ancient Roman and Greeks of all eras, depending on the ruler I think?
