Yes the El Junque puts you right in the jungle. Very nice. You guys got me into the ATB series. I had to get Glacier Park ATB for the mountain scene. It lets me relive all the trails I have hiked across the West and the sheer drops. The price did not bother me. There are so many Canadian, Chinese, Mexican, etc Silver Proofs I want. But most of them want over $100 per oz. There is a 2 oz Mexico Centenario Proof triangular shaped commemorative that is over $250. I have been drooling over that so long. The heck with it, I am now going to buy it. It is Father's Day! Besides when we go bail out Europe and Europe prints more money and we print more money with QE3, Whew got wound up there. Well anyway, silver will be going up so buy it while it is cheap. I love those 10 oz silver Chinese Dragon bars at A***X!

I don't mean to revive old threads, the " ATB 5oz" comes up in search. But really? Puerto Rico? I guess we're counting territories, although I'm sure I'll hear more about 'statehood' another time. I've seen the list, just wondering if the Phillipines would have worked before we shut it down. Idk, If alot of people think along these lines, they may be one of the rarest of all the 5oz ATB's. going forward. I like the Jungle thing though. Tried to order from mint on 6/25 trying to get in a first strike until I was told about their quarterly inventory delays on shipping. After the 30th, I cancelled.

Elmo just an fyi when you order has nothing to do with a first strike or not you can get those at any time and theyre all mixed together in the depot. The FS and ER slab labels also mean nothing just so you know.
Also Welcome

Ty Basebal21. I still don't see a 'quote' tab to copy what you said. I'm still newb I was thinking the PCGS requires a postmark within 30 days of release for FS? I also thought the FS designation may be beneficial in appraisal.
I could have this backwards. Still learning, and alot of info in these forums is helping IMMENSELY

Elmo theres no quote button a know of that isn't in the reply to this thread way.
PCGS does require the shipping in 30 days and you are right at the moment those coins generally do get a little higher price. Personally I feel that will fade in time and already is starting too as more and more people realize it has nothing to do with the coin quality.
I actually really like the idea of FS if the mint would keep the first strikes of a series designated as such and separate, but until the mint gets on board with the idea its meaningless.
The biggest thing for value will just be whatever it grades. I would add if you are trying to get a perfect 70 coins it is cheaper to just buy them then having to send in multiples yourself in hopes of hitting one

Alot of people think they will cancel the series? Is there precedence for something like that? see, idk. From what I read there was alot of frustration when they launched this, is that why alot of collectors are avoiding them?
Thanks in advance

Series have been canceled or cut back before. I used to be a huge fan of them but now I'm avoiding them. Others can speak for themselves but the 2 biggest reasons I'm now avoiding them are the premium over melt is insane at 70 dollars and climbing, and I dont see this series getting completed except in the bullion which I have no interest in. The series has been so mismanaged its not even funny in the sense you go 6 months without hearing a thing then all of a sudden get 5 coins released in 6 months or 10 in a year which is just to much. It should have actually been well planned and they should have said okay we have 5 coins a year the first will be in febuaryish and then release a coin every other month and spread it out. Not the first coin will be in june and it will be released with our silver proof set, an eagle set, and every other silver product we can possibly cram into that week so people either have to sign their pay check over or pass on some items.

Yes, agreed. This is my first collection ever. I have some things handed down to me. Truth is I never heard the term 'numismatic' before 3 months ago. So I am excited about my first ever collection. It is costing quite a bit, but I'm hoping one day pass it on to someone after I'm gone. I don't have high expectations of what their fate will be after that lol. Maybe one of the kids will think I wasn't as bad an SOB as they thought.
All aside, truthfully I think the bullion will fetch the most on the open market in the future. The 'P' series is so costly and of all the proofs I have, I see people only getting bullion prices for anyway.

It was one of the things that got me started too, sad to see it happen how it has but I just cant keep going with it with how its been. Maybe ill pick them up one day but my days of ordering them from the mint are done.
A lot of people have switched to the bullion which are still fine looking coins. My only concern with them is they are just that bullion only. If silver hit 5 dollars again I wouldnt want to have paid 170 for a coin now worth 30 bucks. I always felt the Ps would hold value better but 205 is kind of a high floor considering how fast they were to jack them up to 280 at one point when silver went up.
I really cant recall a series being so mismanaged before and really they have no one but themselves to blame for its apparent failure. I would be surprised if we saw a P for any of the 2013 ones. Doing the Puerto Rico one so quickly didnt help either, some people love it but that just doesn't get me excited with all the great US ones that were still available. To me its almost like a foreign coin

FYI, the Mint has never really managed their product lines well, steady yearly sets like the silver proofs, uncirculated mint set, do not always come out at the same time each year. Sometimes later, sometimes earlier in the year, there is just no rhyme or reason when specific coins/sets are released.
5oz ATBQs have not been the only set that's been 'mismanaged,' IMO, the gold spouses have been hit pretty hard, too, but that is been helped by the rising cost of gold since the series began. I think that the more collectors shun the series, the more eminently collectible the pucks will be, lower and lower mintages, just like the spouses. The designs are phenomenal spread out across a 3" surface, the Mint seems determined to crank them out until the end of series in 2021.

I think the 3" platter is the actual die shrink to the 5" one (60% smaller). So instead of optically scanning the 3" disk and shrinking it down to normal quarter size, they just leave it at full size (100%). Pretty amazing how the technology has evolved.
