Grease filled die? Is that common with these coins?

Maybe the America is a Grease Filled Die but I think the die may have been falling apart on the edge because the denticals are well defined. Not sure if the cheek is PMD or a die problem. This series is notorious for problems with the dies. My avatar shows what a lamination error looks like so I don't think the edge is that.

I'm newer to this, but looking at the coin in hand the cheek looks like corrosion after the fact. The top right almost looks like a punch mark and the F is almost cut off.

You are probably correct about the PMD on the cheek. I will see if I can poke some others wiser than me to help with the upper right.

It looks like post mint damage to me. Check the reverse photo and you can see where the metal protrudes out from possible hits on the obverse. Hard to tell for sure from the fuzzy photos.

On the reverse, exactly opposite of the obverse rim anomaly, the coin appears to be flat. It looks like something was used to hit the obverse really hard which caused the flattening on the reverse.

I was thinking about this coin last night and the sheer fact that is almost 150 years old. This coin could tell some stories! I imagine she saw a few bar fights in NYC in her day.
