Great thread idea Chris  Core Holdings in the 14 to 16 Dollar Range. Continued to buy all the way up and all the way down and no intention of stopping no matter what direction the paper price goes due to one indisputable fact of fiat currency. Yeah, the longer someone's been stacking, the lower their cost average. I've collected off and on for years, but it wasn't until last year when prices peaked (of course) that I started getting serious about stacking. As a result, I've been s l o w l y bringing down my DCA from it's high of $38.00USD.

A lot of us only started collecting silver fairly recently, so have a higher average cost than we would have had if we had started earlier when silver prices were lower.
My average cost is right at $36 an oz. but in addition to bars, ASEs, and SMLs, I tend to buy nicer 90% silver coins that are VF or better grades that cost a little more than the average circulated 90% coins. This does not include my most recent order of 160 ASEs that have not arrived yet but should sometime next week.

A few weeks ago I sat down and calculated my dca and I've gone from $47oz a year and a bit ago down to $31oz. Got a major break when I was able to sell off 25oz @ $47oz. Took a loss of almost $100 but was able to buy back in at the $31 spot mark. Been buying a lot of junk silver, most at 2xface under spot and just over 3oz worth found from coin roll searching have both helped drop my dca. Some people would say that you cant use coin roll hunting in your dca and that's their opinion and I respect that. I look at how many ozs I hold and how much fiat I have invested.

That's not the way that I would count it but if someone else wants to do it that way, more power to 'em. Any silver obtained via any honest means counts towards the DCA, IMHO... including inheritance! |

I took most silver I have out of circulation 50+ yrs ago. Face value saved is around $800.

Started at about $5-$6 oz back in the mid-90s for my own collection. My wife joined in and jointly its more like $35 oz average.

You guys who started early and collected when roll searching was a lot more productive than it is these days or the price of silver was a lot lower than it's been recently are my heroes. Excellent job! |
