Happy b-day CC and I as well like the new pieces, esp the rare bar....

I was baffled by that IRSCO so I did some research in google....

Could not find a thing until I broke it up on a hunch, via IRS-company in which case I discovered an old pour company called I.R.S. via a thread from another coin forum.....

I find it humorous that they would be bold enough to tag a name like that on a bullion company, which may draw UN-nessicary attention shall we say....

I suppose the actual I.R.S, may have once molded their own bars, lol....

"This bar measures 1" x 2 1/16 x 1/4"
Says U.S. intr revenue with a picture of a scale

Reads 4.02oz and says G.024 S.972

It has he initials J.C. on the back...."

coincollect1,

You are going to love this.

Your bar differs greatly from the one Hawk found. Yours is a simpler, has clearer markings, and happens to be marked by a company not in the business of producing bars as a final product, the Imperial Smelting & Refining Co. Of Canada Ltd. which does business as Irsco Products. (451 Denison St, Markham, ON L3R 1B7, Canada, (905) 475-9566) [http://www.manta.com/ic/mtq87j6/ca/...f-canada-ltd] This company was originally established in 1914 and appears to be a subsidiary of Umicore Canada Inc. which produces jewelry and industrial metals per their website. (http://www.umicorepreciousmetals.com)

Way more than any one of us wanted to know, right?

The point is, your profile shows that you are from Toronto, Canada....Markham, ON is ONLY 20 miles away. I'd say the bar is a product of the Imperial Smelting & Refining Co Of Canada Ltd.

Very, very nice. :)

PS. Hawk, did you read all of that thread with the "IRS" bar? It ended up being a bit dubious. I don't think it was real when I looked at the full resolution photo.

Wow thanks Harrison. I didn't think it was a Canadian made bar, and that it was made near me is awesome. I don't live exactly near Toronto but I am close too it. I just didn't want to put my city on my profile. Thanks Harrison and Silverhawk again.

Wow, well done Harrison I was on the the right path, but way off in the end....

Makes total sense as the company you mentioned is also would have been based right there in CC's backyard basically, great info and find CC....

I could have searched until the cows came home and never found Imperial Smelting & Refining Co Of Canada Ltd., that is way rare and under the radar shall we say. Just another great example of smaller refining companies that went mostly UNNOTICED until silver had is big push in recent years and modern day speculators discover them like most of us, stumble on the old stuff and find out about its history later, if it had enough stamp information....
