Broseph, You'll learn that many tellers providing info about crhing are bending the truth. They have experience with CRHers. They don't like ordering/carrying/sorting half dollars. If they can give you a little bit of discouraging news to get you to go to the bank next door...some will do it. I have yet to walk in to bank and the teller say "You're at the right place if you want collectible halves...we've had people order from us that do really well". Now after you establish a relationship with a teller or two, they may give you the real low down. But if a teller goes to volunteering information to a costumer she doesn't know...take it for what it is.

You aren't receiving your coins from the Fed when you order. In most cases, they come from a (local) courier such as Brinks, that does their own rolling and distribution.

Most of the time that the employees do the rolling they likely would just pick out the silvers for themselves and exchange them with the wade of dollars they keep on them for those kind of currency exchanges. I am sure that as long as the right count of money is sorted Brinks could care less what coins their employees keep for themselves.

Brinks security does indeed care what their employess do and they must follow strict rules at their facility. Until someone here provides proof that Brinks culls silver, the idea is just plain poppycock.

The tellers definitely don't all pick through the rolls and coins that come in. Many don't know anything about coins whatsoever. Many are very young or from a foreign country.

Hope I didn't offend, but from the posting here no one seems to know from where coins are distributed to banks, who the fed is, and they don't seem to realize that Brinks hires highschoolers in the summer to cull silver.
LOL!

Remember all those Morgans in the treasury vaults? Man! I wish I was around for that. There could be anything in there. Unlikely but it could happen.

Does anyone know how it works in Canada? I imagine it would be similar. I have two friends that either have worked or do work for a bank. Unfortunately they don't live close to me so I can't take advantage. I did ask one if they search coins wrapped that they receive and he said no. But I do know some tellers do go through loose change they receive. If you have any specific questions I can ask let me know. Unfortunately it will only be what happens at the bank. In terms of brinks and the mint I'm still in the dark. I too would love to know what happens there. On a side note does anyone know how to get 50 cent coins at fv in Canada? I know silver would be unlikey as it's bigger than non silver however, I wouldn't mind trying to put a set together.
Appreciate any feedback.

i hear the tellers allthe time say we order from the FED. but to them that just means sealed boxes. in FACT that means you get sealed boxes with circluated coins that have filtered through other branches that were then sorted at a distribution facility,. then boxed up and sent back to banks to fill coin orders..
as far as BRINKS culling silver, I heard its bunk. my source? youtube.. someone posted a while back a nice history channel or discovery channel bit on the coin.. how it goes from the candy machine to the banks.. etc.. they showed a pretty indepth warehouse facility where coins were sorted and boxed and at no time were any employees seen sifting through for silver... makes me sleep better.. =D

so many rumors persist about the so called removal of silver - its just a myth thats all and most tellers really have no idea where the coins come from they just assume it must be from the fed and the armor cars deliver it all (they dont know those armor services have facilities )
