Then again, maybe not:

Recent Auction on eBay

11 bids and a final price of $2,980.00. Maybe my torn label would add a bit, but probably not that much...

Great pickup as usual barry.
If that was my bar I would throw it up on ebay with a BIN and best offer, with a healthy premium of course. If it sells great, if it doesn't it only cost you $.20 to list for 30 days. Plus you get an idea of what kind of demand there is for it.

Barry you would be surprised what that label add's towards its value. As a JM collector myself there is a larger premium to these labelled bars. It's like the 20oz JM bars there are some that will command a small premium and some that command a large premium. Shoot me a pm I'll send you a picture of my labelled 100oz JM bar UNited states bullion and some varieties.

No I was way wrong, I just said peel it because it was in the process of coming off....

Seeing as how it gives it so much more value, one would be a fool to remove it....

I still would be itchin too peel it, lol....

Its like a thumb print, where else you gonna see one just like that bar, NO WHERE....

I agree as well never hurts to list something for way high and see if you get any takers, it happens from time to time on special items like that....

I can list 50 items for free every month no charge with zoom being a power seller and fluctuating top rated seller rof....

I dunno, Barry. You keep buying things that they go up in price and your status as official canary-in-the-coal-mine will be well and truly over. I mean, we other buyers out here have come to depend on you for a while now but your recent reliability is in serious question!

I couldn't help but lurk in and see you're bar... and then I remembered seeing one on another forum that I'm more active in Here-

The difference is, obviously, that the sticker is intact.

IMO it is collectible, but I don't think it would bring all that much of a premium--- but there is always that have to have it person.

Nice pickup regardless

Thanks for sharing that, Luke! That one definitely looks better than mine, although perhaps mine has more "character" for being in such rough shape, eh?

Stick around!

All right, just for the heck of it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...290757648192

I couldn't in good conscience list it at $5000, but I figured at $4000 I can pay all the fees, buy another bar for myself, and still make a decent amount of profit. And if it doesn't sell, I still have the bar, so it's a win-win!

Seriously, it is a nifty bar with tons of character, but I'm a collector of old coins, not old silver bars, and I'd be just as happy with shiny new 100-ounce bar if this one does sell.

Hmmmm...

Maybe I should have been more greedy after all. I just did a quick ebay search for 100-ounce silver bars and saw a bunch of brand new Engelhard bars with Buy It Now prices of $4500-$5000. I doubt any will actually sell, but those prices do make my bar look like a real bargain at "only" $4000...

Ah well, my bar didn't sell for $4000. Maybe if I had taken a risk and let people bid instead of using a BIN price. Or maybe I should have set a higher BIN and accepted offers. Who knows...

Whatever the case, I'm not unhappy since I get to keep the bat and I didn't buy it to make a quick profit in the first place. Still, it would have been nice to sell it for $4000 and then buy two more bars.
