It appears the item was removed from sale - maybe we did some good and saved someone from an expensive mistake!

I wonder why following the link provided above brings up a page indicating the piece was removed or no longer available?

I hope ebay intervened after the auction closed!

I am guessing they did - because I had it on my watch list and saw it sold for $440. I also had sent the seller a note yesterday advising them of the "counterfeit" nature of the coin/listing. I hope the seller took it down - but it seems more likely that ebay removed it - since it was after the sell.

I know about 4 years ago ebay got involved in a purchase of mine... seller had apparently quit shipping DVD's they were selling due to a supplier issue. I got a refund and for the next 4 days a new DVD showed up... and then the seller was gone and not returning any of my emails. ebay can get aggressive...

I just want to clarify: If an ebay seller accepts PayPal they MUST accept returns even tho they might state "no returns."

Another good reason to always pay via PayPal.

And not with the "gift" option. When you pay as gift, you lose that protection.

ebay offers buyer protection on most sells. The problem is none of us know if the buyer is aware this was/is a fake coin - so they might not even know to request the refund.

"And not with the "gift" option. When you pay as gift, you lose that protection." That is correct. And I see some sellers here want PayPal gift as payment.

As far as the gift option goes, I use it rarely depending on the situation. I have used the gift option when purchasing from a couple of CCF members without hesitation and have never used it outside of CCF.

If one is not comfortable with the terms of sale, either negotiate in good faith or do no make the purchase.

I think these re-strikes are available as medallions from ChattanoogaCoin in the Fantasy Restrike Section. I called them but the "Vault Master" could not remember what designs were still available other than the Texas, Boone, and Vermont and, I guess, for the price, no one volunteered to go see. So I ordered the 3 pictured with a comment to call me if there were more designs available. If nothing else, should make a good pocket piece! I think these were made before the 1973 Protection Act - so no "COPY" stamp.? But could not get any more specific info on them - Maybe someone else that deals with them regularly could find out more than I could...

Well, I am one of those fools! I thought that I was getting a good price on the 1936 Gettysburg Comm. but as I just received it in the mail I realized that it is a fake. I have opened a case with ebay and asked the seller to refund me once he gets the item back. Luckily I paid with PayPal!
I noticed the instant I pulled it out of the package. What a disappointment. Next time I will know better before bidding.
