You might want to take it down and try to get more 'perfect' pics or even get it slabbed...if this is a high $ coin.

It's about an $80 coin if not at least PL, and a $150 coin if it actually *is* PL. I'm pretty certain the obverse doesn't make PL - I don't see enough reflectivity to clearly read newsprint in it at all, much less the distance required for PL.

I was going to get it slabbed.. But after reading posts on here I though I would just take a chance on ebay rather than spend the $50 to have it slabbed. Thanks for the advice though! |

That's on the upper edge of 64PL in a slab, for that coin. Quite frankly, I think you got away with one here. Your own photography proves the obverse isn't PL, given the huge contrast with your reverse images. A PL coin looks very much like a DMPL coin when photographed, like so:  That only made PL in an NGC slab. |

I think you made a killing on the coin for what it sold for but I am going to tell you if I was the winner of this coin and the Obverse looks like it does in the pictures it would be coming back to you for a refund because it is very high for a one sided DMPL 1878-S. I agree with SD that I don't think the Obverse is even PL as you described it in the description and believe it or not I have had and seen many PL/DMPL 1878 Morgans in my day. This is what a DMPL coin should look like on both sides   |

I agree with Bryan. I wouldn't spend that money yet, if I were you. Also, with ebay's new return policies, you will need to pay the shipping if a SNAD claim is opened. To be honest, it is simply not worth it to misrepresent an item on ebay as it will just cost you more money in the end. I think that it's interesting that you received replies that stated that this coin may not even be prooflike, let alone deep mirror prooflike, but you took the posts that you liked and disregarded the ones that you didn't and used that to falsely inflate the value of this coin. Bryan1315 and SsuperDdave are avid collectors of this series and have a profound amount of knowledge with these, yet you chose to ignore their posts. It is obvious to me that you didn't send this coin to be graded because you knew after reading the comments here that it would not come back PL or DMPL and that would have lowered your bottom line. CCF is not here to help people make more money or be less than honest in their sales ventures. I am very unhappy that a member of our CC family would have misrepresented an item for sale for any reason.  |

I did not simply pick and choose what I liked on this site. I took it to my local dealer and used what he told me, as I stated in my description. I am extremely grateful for the knowledge and resources from the people on here, and in no way would I use you guys to pick up a few dollars. I personally don't think it would matter what I had said about the coin because I provided detailed and up close photos for them to judge the coins themselves. Yes I did not get the coin graded because of the advice I received on here because I simply did not want to run the risk, as I already own a full set of morgans (besides some keys) so I took it to my local dealer to see how he would appraise it and used his knowledge in my description. If a claim is opened I would gladly pay the return shipping if the customer is unhappy with the coin because my intention was not to scam anyone on ebay. I greatly appreciate the advice and knowledge from all of the people on CCF, and I hope that someday I will contain enough knowledge to help others out on here as everyone on here has done for me. I don't really appreciate though, when people throw around accusations without asking questions first, especially someone I respect greatly on this forum. |

The only reason I was not more blunt in my assessments is that the possibility exists the obverse of the coin isn't perfectly-depicted in your images, and it is in fact more reflective than it appears. All the same, it looks the way it looks, that's not what "PL" looks like, and a pronunciation from your local dealer is not necessarily gospel unless he's fully qualified to make such judgments through long experience with reflective Morgans.
It is what it is, and I'm not uncomfortable with how the auction ended. The buyer has hundreds of Feedbacks, and looks to be almost exclusively a Dollar specialist. If he chooses to return, your policy is generous. If he doesn't, well, then I'd suspect the coin is worth what was paid for it.
I believe it's time to let this rest.
