It's 2am here in Ireland, and I'm up up way part my bedtime teaching those pesky Egyptians a lesson they won't soon forget in Rome: Total War. I imagine there'll be a few worried denizens of the Nile Valley hoarding their coins away tonight as my Battle-hardened Julii troops approach their cities!!

Hey! I'm playing as Egypt right now! (but in Medieval 2). So stop attacking my ancestors lol Pesky crusaders keep trying to take Constantinople away from me But all their attempts have been futile

Well, IMHO for the Medieval and Post-Medieval periods, the game one should play would be Crusader Kings (II?) and Europa Universalis III, respectively. The Ancient period equivalent is EU:Rome, but it's been generally regarded as bad word removed by author not exactly good so possibly it isn't the best choice there.

I got a it downloaded and then....I got an error saying driver was blocked due to incompatibility. Got to love PC gaming so now I have to figure out how to fix that. So far not pleased, but on youtube priceofmacedon has some great gameplay videos.

Got the game to work. I played the tutorial for about two hours. I took some getting used to with the camera angles but I think I got a pretty firm grasp of the game mechanics. I was pretty impressed with the level of detail and special options that are allowed during some events like siege or fighting barbarians, in forest. Very neat game, plays smooth on high graphics I am happy for $20. Good suggestion thanks guys. Maybe some time soon we "that have this game" can get a little multiplayer action going.

Just got Rome: Total War a couple days ago and have been playing the crap out of it. Great game, can't believe I missed out on it when it was newer.

I played the Alexander campaign and almost immediately got my "As" handed to me. Man, that game is pretty tough.

I've just been working on the Julii campaign, but I am loving those dog soldiers. Nothing disrupts an enemy general's battle plan like 400 rotties chasing him down, dragging him out of his saddle and savaging him.

The graphics are dated, but the gameplay is great. There are worse ways to spend ten dollars.

Quote: Nothing disrupts an enemy general's battle plan like 400 rotties chasing him down, dragging him out of his saddle and savaging him. And nothing like wreaking havoc like scaring the enemy's elephants so they end up trampling their own troops If anyone that has Barbarian Invasion wants a good challenge, play the Western Roman Empire campaign on hard/hard or very hard/very hard. It's a messy situation right from the start...
