Does it have a BIN option on it? If there are no bids from the item I would tell them that youll set the BIN price to 15 and he can purchase it that way but that you wont be selling it off ebay

You haven't specified if he wanted to purchase outside of ebay or on ebay for $15. It is NOT against ebay rules to end an auction early and sell to the highest bidder, in fact, it'll appear as one of the options when you end the listing. There is a time frame when one can end a listing, however.

I always respond to everybody on ebay so if you wanted to sell ON ebay for $15, just do it. If he asked to buy off ebay or if $15 doesn't work for you, just politely tell him no in a response.

I know some people feel like they need to turn people in for every little offense. There are some real scammers all over ebay (buying and selling) and that should be reserved for them IMO. I find it petty otherwise. Choice D is just unnecessarily vindictive, I'm not sure what one would gain from doing that in any case.

yes, he wanted to buy it outside of ebay. There is also no BIN option, and there won't be.

I'd personally "Respond to them and politely tell them 'no thanks" they might end up buying your item at the end of the auction.

I would tell them no thanks. If it continues, ignore him. If it still doesn't stop, report them.

I don't see a problem with asking. I don't have time to do auctions so I will look for buy it now auctions or ask the seller. I always buy through eBay/PayPal because I like the protection they offer if the coin doesn't arrive.

C. Thank them for their interest, but tell them that you do not end auctions early.

Scenario: Auction has an opening bid of $299, with no bids placed. I ask the seller what their best selling price would be. If we can reach an agreeable amount, the seller would end their action early and relist it with a "Best Offer" option, place our agreed upon bid and close out the auction. ebay gets their fees, and that is pretty much what ebay wants.

There are some sellers who have their own outside shops as well as ebay listed items, more times than not simultaneously. DLRC for instance. A Large Cent was listed on both; their own site (lower amount) plus ebay (higher amount to cover fees I guess). Sometimes you can get a better deal if you deal with the dealer off-site directly.

I took the high road and politely told them no. I figured this way, they just might put in a $15 bid.

3 days out, bidding is already up to $12.72. Perhaps they thought that $15 'sounded like a lot' and I might be desparate for some quick cash when the bidding opened at $1.

It is against ebay policy and if they find out you are doing this you will be banned from ebay. It is kind of hard to say you didn't do it when you have to email the seller through ebay message center and they can n=access all of those emails to prove you did. If ebay thinks you are doing this as a seller they will investigate the seller also and if they find they have done it a few times they will ban them also. I always treat every question like this as being from an ebay employee and trying to catch people breaking this rule

That being said I always either ignore their email or respond with nothing else but "No". I am not one that wants someone to get into trouble but if I sold allot and it happened allot I may change my outlook on it

Bryan is it against the policy to adjust the listing like the BIN now price or just against the policy to sell it off ebay

I would just tell him no thanks. We technically avoid ebay fees here as well. If we see something on ebay that a member has, we message them on here and they sell to us for cheaper avoiding ebay and paypal. so we are guilty too. Just tell him no thanks, and if you want, let him know it's against the rules.

There is actually very little against policy as long as the sale is completed on ebay. They just want their money. I have negotiated with sellers on price and have had buyers negotiate with me. Listings were occasionally changed or ended. It is all fine as long as ebay gets their cut. Never had a problem as I always stayed on ebay.

The grey area happens when discussion occurs for sales off of ebay for items which are not currently listed on ebay, even if they have been listed in the past. I have read the rules in depth and I think if one were to word such an offer correctly, it would be alright. A former ebay employee I know personally also told me that such cases are left alone, but you have to word it correctly like I said.

I think ebay is aware of this and since they want all the money they possibly can get they just recently implemented the "no email" ban regardless of what the message says. This may blanket any outside sales, even if it gets through the loophole.

btw, I'm not suggesting one attempt such an outside offer, just stating what I believe to be true as far as information.

Changing a listing from auction to bin is not against ebay policy. Ending an auction early and paying for it outside PayPal/eBay is the problem. ebay wants the commission from the sale, that's it.
