1) From the Picture is this considered an "early pour" type?
Early to mid 80's pour. Older bars will say "Johnson Matthey" across the top, and even older say" Johnson Matthey and Mallory"

2) Is this just worth spot value of silver is it slightly more because it is a JM?

Has a premium, since it is a 50, it is smaller due to its size. I'd say 3.00-5.00 a oz over spot.

3) Estimated value?

1750-1900$

4) If I wanted to sell it to collector (not just a pawn store) so it will be taken care of, what is good place to sell siver?

I'd try ebay as you're best bet to get top dollar

before you post it on ebay check to see what the charges will be if you do sell it for 1900. it may be better to sell it here for 1800. and that way you know you will be selling it to someone who loves it :)

Does anyone have input on the average ebay fees that would be associated with selling this. I know silver hawk sells bars on there from time to time. maybe he can tell you the fees associated with it.

I would say a close estimate for related fees on the bay and shipping with insurance should be ~$180. nlp

ebay now charges 9% of the final value with a max charge of 250 for auctions. Paypal I think takes on another 3 or 4 percent and I have no idea if they have a max or not.

You save money on ebay now selling in auctions as opposed to BIN. Even if you knew you wanted 2100 for it just start the auction at that or slightly below and you wont get hit with the higher BIN fees.

So pretty much if the seller sells the bar for 2000 which seems to be the high for this bar he will pocket near 1800 after fees and than doesn't he have to pay federal tax now on your sales? so that cuts in even more. it would be best to sell it here it seems.

For that hed had to pay taxes, if you sell it for less than you bought it for I'm sure.

But in this case the premium is small enough overall that he probably would end up with more in the end selling it here for less than getting top dollar on ebay

Actually, he would be better off selling as a Buy It Now. While auction fees are 9% regardless of price, fees for BIN are 11% up to $50, 6% from 50-1000, and 2% after $1000. So, to make it easy, lets say it sold for $2K:

ebay fees would be: $50*(0.11) + $950*(0.06) + 1000*(0.02) = $82.50

I believe Paypal will take 2.9% + $0.3 = $58.30
Total fees = $140.8, which is just over 7% of hypothetical sales price.

Auction Listing ebay fees: $2000*(0.09) = $180. With paypal, total fees: $238.30.

Here's is a better link for better comparison, since you don't have a store, just look at the first column to compare the Final Value Fee btw Auction vs BIN. The program will highlight the column with the total least fee, usually the one requiring you to subscribe (have an ebay Store). Note: This excluding PayPal fee (2.9% + $0.30): http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinforma...strator.html

Playing around with that pay will reveal some very interesting understanding and the dynamic of ebay Fee mechanism:
1) If your average monthly sell is above $1500 then you better off subscribe for the $15/month fee.
2) If you sell a lot of love value item ($50 or less) then there's no point subscribing, unless you achieve high volume ($1500/month or more) and it's best to list the items as auction.
3) If once in a while you are selling a high value (more than $100) then it's best list the item as BIN.

Anyone considering selling on ebay should try to play around with it.

Selling it on the CCF would be a nice option, but since he is a new member, not very realisitic. I'd agree that ebay is the way to go or a decent coin shop that deals with bullion.

"1) If your average monthly sell is above $1500 then you better off subscribe for the $15/month fee...."

I seem to hang around that 1500 per month figure and average about 150 bucks per sale. Maybe I should jump on the grenade an open an ebay store....

See I had this all figured wrong in my head as usual, that calculator is GOLD, thanks!

Good to know about the fees being constant over certain amount, until you hit 10k. So it is not as bad to sell a real high cost item, or as bad as I had previously figured it would be....

Found a dreamer asking 3200 plus, lol....

Lol, you got that right, Hawk. At $3297, that is priced more like a 100 oz. silver bar!
