Can't say for sure. I think the top part of the 5 matches but I do not think I can for certain (boy, that's a lot of words for a maybe). I'm really hoping it is. Maybe you can take Windchilds suggestion.

Well... I can say that the OP coin is either an 1886 or an 1885, with a higher chance of an 1885.

I agree. I'm on my iPad and I can enlarge the pic. It definitely looks like a 5 to me.

Here's something to show... a little editing and viola The five is now easier to see.

Thanks, Windchild. (I keep looking for the 'like' button, lol)

Did you buy it as an 1885? Find it in circulation?

Congratulations! Maybe this will make up for the coin with the arrows scraped off.

OldSkool-- It's been in the family since roughly the mid 1900's where it resided in one of dozens of cigar boxes and containers of mixed coins. Most of the higher denom and valuable coins were probably culled by coin dealers many years ago and I'm going through the remains now, learning as I go. This coin was probably pulled from the cash register by my grandfather, who checked the register every evening when he closed the drug store. He did trade for some coins and perhaps purchased a few but this was not in a 2x2, plastic container, etc. Just one among many piles of various coins, mostly low-grade.

I have no doubt to it being an 1885. That is definitely the flag of a 5, the spacing is right, and 1885's tend to wear like that.
