Just to add, I've looked at the styles of the Aquileia, Rome, Heraclea, Cyzicus, and Nicomedia and it wasn't much help. The diameter could help, maybe

Bobby - this is my problem exactly. I have tried various combinations and just cant find a match for it. I may have to completely remove the crud on the coin to find it.

Well, probably only a small help but if the coin looks like it was 13mm or less when it was made you can rule out Rome and Aquileia. If its 14mm or bigger you can rule out all the others. Good luck!

Sorry for the late compliments, but nice coins echizento!

I know at least most of you all have seen both but just thought I'd update my thread with my two latest acquisitions from this era:

Western Roman Empire

Valentinian III (reigned 425-455 AD; coin minted 425-435 AD)
Rome mint

Ostrogothic Kingdom

Theodahad (Reigned 534-536 AD)

Just so you know if you don't already. Coins of this era are really badly manufactured and didn't hold up well over the centuries. I sometimes wonder what kind of people they hired to make those coins.

And scarce to downright nearly impossible to find I'd like to add (for those that don't know already), especially the coins of the post-Roman Germanic kingdoms, like my Theodahad I just posted.

Also I feel that the imperial governments just lost interest in making good, artistically styled coins (although I understand that the Western empire's situation was not productive towards the redevelopment of these kinds of coins). But hey at least they put a bit of effort in the solidii
