Would you agree that is a bad coin? From a new purchase point of view.

What coin is this? Most proof silver coins are supposed to be refined silver - so that is unlikely. That looks like some ugly toning setting in, which means this coin was probably stored in a place with high humidity.

Hi Richard76, which coin is this? Was it from a set?

The coin is a RCM 50c Golden Flower series - Golden Daisy.

The reverse of the coin is excellent. But this well...

Check that... The reverse has marks as well. These are parallel, but look gold or rust(?) .
Looks like the gold plating was swiped while liquid. ?
I have to find out how these coins are made first.

Where did you get it? Since it's a 2006 issue and you 'are sending it back', I assume you didn't buy it from the Mint.

Makes me want to dig mine out to see if it has the same damage.

I would rather not say at the moment. Because I am waiting to here back from the business I got it from. When the deal is done then ill comment.
Kinda worried though. Three day no rely. Given that it was New Years I am patiently waiting.

I'm working on a pic of the reverse now.

Sure - totally understandable. I assumed earlier that you were talking about current coin from the RCM.

Most likely, this damage occurred well after minting and I would expect that if you purchased from a dealer, then a refund or replacement would be appropriate.

I know some of the dealers closed for the the holidays so hopefully you will hear back soon. GL

Here is the other side... To complete my gripe.

I don't understand why new purchases are not checked by CoinDealer before mailing them out. It must cost less for the shipping on returns than the business lost on backed-up orders.

I just started buying silver commemorative coins last month and I have had three bad orders so far. Coming into numismatics I had the notion that "Fine"coin meant perfect work of art.
Quality vrs. Quantity, eh.

Some dealers buy back coins from customers at low price and resell them, sometimes those coins would be in sub-par condition. Maybe yours is one of those? Just a guess.

Please do let us know how things go, I am particularly interested on knowing who is responsible for the return shipping cost. Thanks and good luck!

Another one of my coin ventures might answer that.

I had the 5oz pure silver farewell...penny come from Gatewest. The capsule had rather large scratches on it ( I think because the coin is so heavy it bounces around in transport). As soon as I mentioned this they said send it back and that they would credit me the shipping cost.
Good excuse to buy some more coins...haha.
