Hey Blues your labeling sounds similar to my canadian penny "pencil labeling" system.

Hey Carl, post a picture if you can. Id be real interested in seeing your album cover with the letters on it. I bet that nickel album is heavy. I know my jefferson is my 3rd heaviest behind kennedy with proofs and lincoln cents.

As far as empty spots go, the shield page is gonna be pretty empty. You have 35 spots per page, so I'm doing one page for shield, one liberty, two buffalo

Here is what I have so far
Shields 17 out of 35 spots
1866
1867 Rays
1867 No Rays
1868
1869
1870
1871
1872
1873
1874
1875
1876
1879
1880
1881
1882
1883

I have removed the 1877 and 1878 proof only. I'm wondering If I can make it look clean, and cover the bottem holes with something, then do a transfer of mintage numbers on it to make the page look clean, then I could add a reverse for the last spot. There are 6 rows of holes, the first 5 rows are 6 spots, and the bottem row is 5 spots.
-------------------------------
Liberty 34 spots out of 35

1883 racketeer
1883 no cents
1883 with cents
1884-1912, 1912 D, 1912 S

I could do a reverse spot for the last hole in this one at the bottem of the page.
-----------------------------------
Buffalo nickels 65 out of 70 spots

1913 1 and 2
1913 d 1 and 2
1913 s 1 and 2
1914-1917 ,1914-1917 d and s
1918, 1918d, 1918/7 d, 1918 s
1920, 19120 d and s
1921,1921 s
1923
1923 s
1924-1929, 1924-1929 d,1924 s-1929 s
1930, 1930 s
1931 s
1934,1934 d
1935-1937,1935-1937 d,1935-1937 s
1938 d

Could do a reverse on one spot, leaving me with 4 empties for now.

Still open to ideas, I'm really wondering if I can do something to make that bottem half of the shields page to make it look clean.

I love the idea of combining nickels series, especially y if I can see both front and back of coin!

I made an album like this too, combined the three series into a 7117 and everything. I also included a racketeer nickel, and in the last slots on each section, I put a reverse space. Glad to see I'm not the only one with time on my hands to come up with this stuff.

Remember that there's no law about how you display coins in your album. Decide what you like/works for you. For example, one of my buffalo albums has all the Philly mints with the obverse facing forward, all the branch mints with the reverse facing forward.

I have thought about the same thing, almost.

I would create a 5 page album.
Buy a "Nickels" binder, then buy the pages from each album.
The Sheild album has 2 pages, the Liberty album has only 1 page, the other is blank, so no needed, and the Buffs have 2 pages. Total 5 pages, already printed, in one album.

It's a little more expensive this way, but would work perfectly.
The only part I question myself on is the 2 Sheild pages, sometimes I think it would be better to use 1 blank page in lieu of the 2 Sheild pages... The Shields only use 2 pages because there are fewer holes by design, AND the Shield pages have a lot of "variety" coins, like overdates and such, which I don't generally care to collect. So, this could be narrowed down further to just 4 pages if I was to accept the 1st page not being pre-printed.

If you want the 1st page not to have so many holes, use a blank millimeter page. Find the mm that fits the nickels, and buy 1 page. The mm pages have far fewer holes per page.

Just looked it up out of curiosity, and the 21mm page has 16 holes.
Sounds like it's short one hole for the Shields...

I also looked up the Shield pages, and it's only 1 page, not 2. The second page is in the album 6110, but it is blank, just like the 2nd page in the Vs.

So it's just a 4 page album using preprinted pages.
They are about 7 bux each, so that is 28 bux, plus the blank nickel album.

6110-1 is the part number...

Sorry I missed this post. I did complete the album. Its not the best. I will get some pictures up later on this evening.

For the shield page I skipped the proofs, probaly should of skipped the other 3 ears after those with the less then 100,000 mintage.

Sorry not the best puctures. But the blank dansco nickel album works real well for this project on these 3 sets. Nickels are not really my favorite coin, but you can do alot of things with this project.

I skipped all the proof year only shields, all though there are plenty of slots for them if you wanted to include those. I'm missing 1871,1875,1876, 1879-1881. I should have not included the 1879-1881, being this is a low end set.I will add the other 3, one of them is tough, but not to bad.

Liberty nickels, I added the rackateer,(top left), and am missing the big 3, 1885,1886, 1912 s.I will add those wont be to bad in ag.

Buffalo's I'm missing 1913 S 2, 1915 s, and 1921 s.

Not a bad project. But a nice little set. I am a few coins short of completing the nickel run from shields to current, skipping the heavy hitting proof shields and buffalo varietys.

You could have done two reverse slots, one for rays and one for no rays.

Good idea, I will also remove the 79-81 shields, that completes that page with only 2 empty holes, Liberty nickels is full, buffs page one full, and only 4 emptys on second buff page.

I might clean it up this winter and give it a cleaner look.

Any updates?
Looking good!

I just ordered a "thick" 1 1/4" " Jefferson nickels" binder (special order printing),
and plan on expanding my Jeff set beyond what Dansco calls a complete set. Hence why
I needed the thicker binder (more pages).

What are you guys using to get the nice looking dates on the pages? I hate writing in
dates. It just looks so cheezy. I wonder if Whitman still sells stick on dates, and
how they would look in the superior Dansco albums?

UPDATE on my custom Jefferson album...

I just got an email and tracking number. It's in transit to me.

I only ordered it 2 weeks ago!
So it doesn't take as long as some people have said in past threads/comments.
