Well, I can definitely see that when the Adams dollar hits the street that some folks will definitely think it's fake, considering so many of our fellow citizens won't recognize the name as a president of the good ol' US of A! Just wait until we get to Tyler and Taylor and Van Buren!

On the plus side, some will actually learn a little bit of history along the way.

I personally do not like the design of the new dollar coins. I think they are very cartoonish and look like something you would get at chuck e cheese. I think that the US Mint just wasted a lot of our money and a lot of there time with these coins.

I don't think that they will ever be accepted by the public. I know that a lot of the banks in my area do not have the coins and are not planing on ordering them.

I hate the coins design, UGLY! I hate the lettered edge, STUPID!! I hate the fact that it is disrespectful to George himself. He did not want to be pictured on a coin. He insisted that he was not a king!!! However, I fully support the program as a whole. It's good for the hobby, it could save our country tons of money, and it might just teach a little history. I personally can't wait to see the George W. Bush $1 LOL!

Of four coins this year, I like the design of Jefferson the best. It is better than that on the new nickle. 2005 nickle looks the best to me so far. The figure of GW $1 looks too upset to me. I like them having a slightly smiling faces or .

I like dollar coins, but just not these prez dollars. They are ugly and have a cheap feel to them. I hate the fact there is writing on the edges. As I said before, I'm not collecting these but I will spend them when I get them. And if these come in the mint set, I may save them until I have them all and sell the entire set in its original packaging or just sell them as I get them.

Why didn't they use Laura Frasher's Houdin design? You know, the one that was suppose be on the Washington quarter before they robbed her?

Because they want some continuity of style and design on the coins. There aren't Laura Gaudens designs or Houdin busts or all of them. By having the existing mint staff do up images of all of them in a relatively brief time and to a specific form you get a continuity of style from one coin to the next.

Besides, Laura Frasers design already appears on a coin.

Madspec-
I am 21 years old. My typing style must resemble an old lady though. Maybe Andrew can give me some pointers on how to be charming and wise.

Andrew-
Respect your elders.

Excuse me, but I need to get back to reading about this WD, It is nice to see a wealth of information and news about it on this forum!

The GW $1 is an incredibly cheap looking knockoff of an arcade token. It's no way to treat a great man like George Washington.

I think the idea of edge lettering was very cool, it's nice to have one more part of a coin to be of interest. I think that moving all of the text they did to the side was overkill. Instead of clearing up the front of the coin for a larger more artistic image that would really be nice to look at they just popped a floating head in the center surrounded by an uninspired looking font for the text. It feel to me more like I'm looking at a token then a coin. The reverse grabs your eye a lot more, the image comes to the side of the coin and has a neat perspective. But even there I can't help but feel the $1 used for the denomination instead of One Dollar adds it looking a little goofy to me.

I want to like these coins but I just feel like they were a letdown. I would love to see new coin designs go the way of a lot of the early 1900's coins with the great artistic designs and layouts that were genuinely different then what had come before.

I guess you old timers like telling the same old stories over and over again. WOuld it hurt to come up with an original idea or topic of conversation every once and a while ...yeah.. I guess it would.

Take a hint from Britist Commonwealth coinage. The standard obverse, the reigning monarch, gives the coinage of all the member countries a continuity. Rarely do they have to change the design under 20 years, sometimes it runs out to 50 years or more. You can change the reverse like days on a calender, it's not important, If you can accept a standard design and keep it for ten or twenty years, you would save a lot of money. You change your presidents like I change my mind and therefore have no continuity by using their images, you even resort to past presidents. Two obverse choices I could suggest are the Statue of Liberty or Mt. Rushmore. Both icons in your country.
Just a thought.
