Youre not the only one. I keep a spare Peace dollar and 2 Walkers nearby at all times for these very purposes. |

Or spin it on a flat surface such as a table.
As it slows down, I can hear the ringing until
it comes to a rest with a thump.
Everyone should have at least one "play" silver coin.

I have a roll of AG-G Seated Liberty and Barber halfs, a roll of circulated Merc dimes and now a few VF+ Morgans that I am using to teach my 6 year old money skills. They also get used during our card games. Nothing like the feel of "real silver money," unless it's circulated gold, which I also let him handle at the bank. Potential damage, minimal. Memories, priceless.

I take some of my coins out to play with all the time. mainly the dollar coins because they are just SO satisfying to flick in the air.

Who doesn't like playing with your coins?  I take mine out every once in a while -- can't let them sit unnoticed, or they'd be worthless! |

Ahh silver, a great thing. There is just something about the way it sounds. The "ting" as you flip it. The way the metal feels. Not much else like it.... until you get a nice firearm in your hands. That is a tough comparison.

This topic makes me happy!
Coins, except for the precious and rare, SHOULD be at least held.
Those in low grades should be played with, either gently or in fun.
Unless new collectors are willing to fondle a silver coin, there will always
be an important part of the collecting experience unexamined.
Sadly, layer upon layer of plastic just does not provide this experience.
Coin dealers will often say,
"I became experienced and knowledgeable by handling coins."
By this, they mean their dirty, greasy fingers touched the coins! OH MY! Such tragedy.
NOT! There is a "right" way to handle coins. Perhaps this knowledge will be lost to future generations.

I was contemplating taking one of my 1oz Maples out just for that purpose, but just couldn't get myself to doing it. Thank you all for the therapy, I will crack one open when I get home from work!  |
