Could be PP, it's not as clear as the first letter P.

Thats definitely P F - is this an error or a variety? Have you checked helvetica?

I checked helvetica - doesn't list this but the ones from this mint with PP are rated Scarce or Rare.

I wasn't aware of helvetica but will do a search to check there.
After looking at it at different angles, it's looks like PF.

Other than whats listed in Helevtica and the reference I gave you of RIC VIII 239 I have not been able to locate any other reference. So it's possible that it just not listed in RIC or maybe a typo?

Not an RIC typo - the picture is clearly DN JOVIANVS PF PP AVG

Perhaps its a mule?

I admit that my eyes aren't that good anymore but I'm not seeing where it's PF PP. I see DN IOVIANVS PF (PP?) AVG. A mule is very possible.

The one shown on wildwinds is "PF PP". Yours omits the PP. Die cutter got tired (or ran out of space). Not a ''mule" which would be 2 different species ie coin dies producing a hybrid.

This one looks like it has the obverse of RIC 235 with the reverse of RIC 239A.

Still not quite different species. More like 'cousins' from the same family

That's what I love about ancients, it's not an exact science so many variables.

I think this coin on Wildwinds could be the same as yours IGE and unlisted.

Jovian-Roman

Its IDed as 'RIC 239,A' and as having the legend 'DN IOVIANV-S PF PP AVG' but, just like your coin the legend break seems to be after the 'A' rather than the 'V'. This means it cant be RIC 239.

Compare that break with the others on WWs and you can see they are clearly different:

Whatever your coin is (I'm not too sure what that is TBH) its the same as the first one I posted.

A side by side for better comparison:

Both of these are unlisted but I don't think they are die matches (v tired so may be wrong) so I guess its most likely you have a rare variant that was not recorded in RIC as a copy did not reside in any of the collections they used to compile it.

Thanks for that example bobbyh, that looks like a real close match. I will just show this one as unlisted. Thanks for the input guys!
