Quote: I cant check out links, but where does the serial# come from?
Straight from the Royal Canadian Mint - it's what they've certified as the very last Cents they'll ever issue. Me? I think the price was on the low side.

Begs the question.......... how does skip_da_line who deals in coins, software, scalping tickets, cancelled stamps etc..etc.....etc......... get a hold of the last roll of the last million pennies ever going to be minted.
Just dumb luck ?

this is not the last roll minted, the new buyer believes it is or he wouldnt bid that much. The RCM did a great disservice by taking 20000 regular rolls placing a missleading wrapper infering last penny roll carefully saying distributed which has no nuministic value, this confusion created this amazing auction. What is next, the RCM taking 20000 2012 pennies put in a clamshell, coa and hologram as the last 20000 pennies distributed and sell them for 99.00 each. goodluck to the orginal owner he got max value for a 50 cent item.

Just like john said, they were probably all throw into one big hopper and then rolled up in the super-expensive paper.

The coins in that roll probably aren't really the last 50 pennies ever, ever struck by the mint. They were all mixed together, and then rolled into wrappers with numbers on them.

But serial number 20,000 on the roll, indicates to all future generations , that this is the very last roll off the presses. Doesn't it?

The buyer needed to be CCF member and asked for an answer about this lot before they bid $6,600.

the RCM just wrapped 20000 rolls of regular pennies with a special serialize # on it as the last rolls of pennies distributed by the RCM, not the last production for 9.95 a roll. The wrapper is missleading and this person bought #20000 for 6500.00 on ebay. The last penny produced is already in the National Currency museum. If this was the last production roll yes it would be worth much more than 6500.00 but surely it would be in the museum too.

Is that a known fact, they just took regular pennies, possibly from last Feb. , stuck 20,000 serial numbers on the rolls and called them the last million pennies ?

the RCM is very carefull in wording on the wrapper just look at the ebay sale or the RCM website it says farewell to penny last rolls distributed. It would have been just as easy to say last rolls produced. There is a chance last roll is in the hands of a dealer or collector all the boxes of pennies are production and date coded, This was just a clever ploy to sell 50 cents for 10.00

In the RCM's Media Room News release for February 5, 2013, it states: Quote:the Royal Canadian Mint is marking the end of an era with special rolls made from the last million pennies made for distribution .... The last million coins produced for distribution at the Mint's Winnipeg facility in the spring of 2012 were set aside to create 20,000 of rolls of 50 coins each, packaged in a commemorative wrap and sealed with a holographic label.

the winnipeg mint produces coin at high speed into bulk bins goes to a laser optic scanner to cull error, then into rolling machine. There was a special effort for Mr.Flarathy and RCM bigwigs to use a cup to collect the last penny. These rolls are at best a mumble jumble mix of the last million or so produce, that is why the RCM uses the wording last penny distributed. If this was indead the last roll produced it cant happen due to the winnipegs mints production process.
