We shall see what the issue price is. I have a number in mind. If it is at that price (or less), I will pull the trigger. (No, I will not say what it is!)

Why do I set limits for myself and why must I always stick to them.

Most definitely. I am getting the dollar in uncirculated and proof. I really like the three-coin set, but the price of gold really hurts. I also know that I would rather put the extra money towards other coins in my Dansco albums.

"The bureau will also offer a 5-Star Generals Commemorative Coin Program special product (product code 5G8). It will include an uncirculated 5-Star Generals Commemorative silver dollar, an uncirculated Eisenhower half-dollar, and a MacArthur bronze medal. The packaging and pricing are being finalized and will be announced soon."
Ok, am I reading that quote from the mints press release correctly? There appears to be an Eisenhower only half in the mix as well?

It does appear to reference a coin that had not previously been announced.
The authorizing legislation does not limit the Mint to just one half-dollar design, but all designs need to go before the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee - maybe the CCAC already approved a second Eisenhower design?
I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one!

As will I! This I will definitely need to have. However, I feel it is an error. It is probably an uncirculated version of the three-coin set, with a bronze medal in place of the gold coin. Even if this is the case, I would still bite; a poor man's version of the three-coin set is more my speed.

Of course, it could just be an accidental misstatement by the Mint.

Yeah - I am leaning toward a misstatement myself. But the explicit language of an Eisenhower half - when Eisenhower isn't on the half... or even alone on the dollar... I agree jbuck this is my poor mans 3 coin set as well. :)

I finally broke down and did it, I got the 3 piece proof set. For me it was the low mintage that tipped the scales for me, well that and all of my uncles serving in the pacific theater during World War 2. I really think that the set has the potential to go up in value ( not that I would sell it ) I can't wait to get it. Hopefully the mint will do a Patton coin at some point in the future.

Coin Update this morning had the " poor man's " set as the uncirculated dollar, the uncirculatd half and the Bronze MacArthur medal.
Someone misspoke somewhere.

Sprung for the unc $5.00 gold eagle, since the MOH commemorative in '11, been buying the unc gold instead of the proof gold. The satin finish of the gold coins reminds me of the roman gold proofs of 1907-1916. I'll probably get the 3-coin proof set later if there isn't going to be a special Buffalo anniversary set with fractionals or 2 1oz. Proof/RP. Expensive year!
