@Silveroid: Personally, I would stay away from storing my coins in a leather wallet/holder. The dyes and other chemicals used in preparing the leather can cause fumes/vapors to escape from the leather and negatively impact stored coins (even if they are still in their capsules).

I believe, over time, you would find that your coins tone while being housed in the leather holder. You might like the effect, you might not. I try to avoid creating such situations for my coins.

I saw this and my interest started from this sale.
And ended after some points that members here have raised.

@pockchange50, I guess I am as well a bit of a stickler when it comes to original packaging and COA's. I just feel to is one more step in avoiding the fakes. Graded and slabbed coins aren't always immune either!

commems, I'm sure you are absolutely correct that there is a risk involved. However, if it's only used for a set of $20 for $20 coins, I think it might be a risk worth taking.

I ordered one and am willing to chance it. After all, it's possible nothing will transfer through the mint's incredibly secure plastic capsules. Well..., I guess I'll be checking them frequently.

Well, firstly, COA means Certificate of Authenticity. So, it's not just a piece of paper. Secondly, the COA explains the history behind the coin, about the design. The COA give the technical details like weight, mintage, diameter, material, etc. I can't find nothing about that in the graded coin holder. If my coin is graded, I agree that the box, sleeve or whatever comes with, is worthless EXCEPT the COA.

In the description the seller writes: "You will receive ONLY THE $5 1 ounce coin in NGC PF69 EARLY RELEASES Reverse Proof . CERT #'S WILL VARY AS WE HAVE MORE THEN 1 SET TO SELL.".

Now, what I was thinking in fact is not only that I do want the COA. I was thinking what does the seller who graded the coins does with the COA? The box I know he sells it individually as we see in ebay but having this COA's "flying around" is very dangerous. I don't want to think about these Chinese counterfeit producers buying them or maybe the sellers who buy this counterfeit coins having access to this original COA's.

I mean, I think that we as collectors and dealers have a certain degree of responsibility with all the original stuff we receive.

I have seen this summer a couple smaller eastern dealers, selling the empty packaging with the COA's. I too like having the COA's for my coins when possible. I've seen US dealers selling empty packaging/COA's as well. I just never have it any real thought. However, very valid concerns have been raised. I will have to pass this along to my friend who gets his coins graded. I like the COA's for the same reason you do. Brings me to
Another thought what happens when sets are broken up, like your examples. With only 1 COA should the seller send a photo copy of the COA and sign to its authenticy? Then you still have no concrete proof when you choose to sell. It will happen one day whether its you or heirs. I never realized there were so many ways at looking at the details when buying on ebay. I'd love others to weigh in with their opinions too. I learn something each time I visit the forum!
