I don't know enough about this type to be 100%, but I do trust Nate's judgement this is his area of collecting. I have not bought from Lanz before, but keep in mind that some fakes are so good that even the experts can be fooled.

Text on the coins of this ruler tend to look a little off and the letters are sometimes a wee crooked, so even though the text looks a little weird, I wouldn't discredit the coin for that fact alone, what sealed it for me was the overall muteness of design and of course.... ...and... Echizento is correct- even true professional experts can be fooled and they can look at such a large volume of coins, that such things can slip buy. I did find the listing from Lanz, and the coin seems to be described correctly, so I am not sure how you got Mossoulus from this...strange.. Although I must say that at least based on the photos the proof is in the pudding... these formations should not be there... I am sure something like this would slip past most, many such things have slipped past me and I have been wrong in the past but here I think its quite definitive.

I think I can be sure its genuine.
Ive received 2 individual opionions.
the first came of Numismatic Lanz. Sir Lanz look a second look on it and his employe told me he is sure its a genuine coin. In his opinion the small spots are errors in the stamp itself and no bubbles of casting. If I didnt like the coin after I will receive it, I could always send it back.
the second opinion came of a well respected member of a dutch forum who immediately said it should came of an error of the stamp, maybe rusted. He even had experience with it on a coin of him. He told me that the coin had the same spots and all experts who saw the coin in hand agreed it was genuine!
Thats why I have confidence this one isn't a fake, of a good coin dealer on who I think I can trust on.

Well that's good news. Something's are tough to see in photo. If the dies were rusted most big namers will describe it as such. If you have the option of returning the coin if unsatisfied, then this is a good sign of inhand confidence, such things are priceless. Good luck my friend.

At first look I had no problem with this coin. But 'noob' is right about what look like bubbles. And ..... they are precisely where I would expect them to be. In corners and crevices where they are difficult to vibrate out during the 'investment' I would need to see an extreme enlargement of the 'suspects'. Even the scrape area might be explained if it were connected to an attempt to disguise something. Perplexing coins like this were a primary reason I (99%) stopped buying silver coinage. I have seen too many fakes that I would have bought without any hesitation. The people of the 'East' have been expert metal workers since the times when we in the west were running naked through the snow chasing deer off cliffs.

Call me skeptical but I would have it checked by another independent expert maybe send it off to David Sear and have it certified.

It's up to you if you want to take the chance. It's going to cost money to get the coin certified and if comes back bad your out the cost.

Maybe a better one will turn up tomorrow, or next week, you don't seem to have much difficulty in finding stunning coins.
