If this buyer's story is true, he/she is a gambler and an idiot. I always designate a minimum grade on orders and do not crack-out. The PCGS handlers mask the slab grade when it goes through so the grader is not influenced by it. This bozo deserves nothing from you Russ except contempt. If he files a complaint, ebay should rule in your favor and even eliminate any neg feedback if given. And you'll need to share the Userid of the buyer so we all can avoid this gem. |

I have in the past taken coins back outside of 14 days. In this case it really smells, for both of us. The person that you trust at Stack's sent this coin in the wrong way and now states he thinks its an AU coin. If this is the case and I trust it is, "why would this trusted guy" not look at the coin and send it in with a MINIMUM Grade Note. The second to the last colum on PCGS submission forms states "Minimum Grade"
On PCGS's own website they state the owner of a PCGS coin can send in any coin for re-holder. So the Info from your Stacks agent about "only I can do it" send it in as a damaged holder from your "trusted guy at Stacks is BS"
Doug I do not know you, and you do not know me. Have your Stacks Rep call me at xxx-xxx-xxxx. The more I think about this and read PCGS guildlines the more I get mad. You are not happy, "with me", and from what I can see you should be mad at Stacks.
I sold a coin in a top cracked Slab that was never messed with, and someone broke it out of that holder. Now a coin that did not sell for full value due to the damaged holder, is in a differant holder and no longer even has its cert number tag AND its now 10 weeks later I am asked to take back a coin in a differant slab and when I say "NO" I am the bad guy.
Please have Stacks call me. I will only honor your 100.00 request after I have the history on the submission to PCGS on this coin is provided.

Wom, unfortuneate. I dont think you'll have a problem w/the bay. I'm sure they've seen a few of these cases. Good luck!

If they had sent it in for reholder in the original PCGS holder the number would not change. If it has a different number now it was either cracked out or sent in for regrading. If it was sent for regrading then PCGS has already paid him the difference in value between the MS-62 grade and the AU-55 grade. If it was submitted raw then he is out of luck. The only way I would refund is if he sends it back in a PCGS slab with the same grade that was on it when he received it. Or I would take it back with the refund of the value of an AU-55.

Well the story changes a little since your post indicates the slab had issues - but that is actually just a minor change in this case. Once he owned the coin - what he did with it is his issue. The large drop in TPG grading is kind of strange if you ask me... |

WOW. The guy was wanting to get a payoff and rolled the dice. He lost its all on the buyer. Like most of the others have said. You have done all you should have todo.

Im not sure thats even a minor change, they have an option where you can just get it reslabbed without them reviewing the grade. He still chose to have the coin regarded instead of just reslabbed and like condor mentioned if it was in the slab they paid him for the down grade otherwise he cracked it or sent a different coin. The more I think about it the more I think hes probably trying to use a coin that that looks similar. A place like Stacks gets special treatment from PCGS in terms of turn around time, they arent going to let their orders sit for 2 months like what seems to be being implied by the buyer. The only thing that they even approaches those turnaround time currently from PCGS is the modern world coins sent at the cheapest level, all the US coins had a faster than usual turn around time up until a week or two ago |

I bought the coins while sitting at the CCF Table on my last day at FUN, Susan was there . I was really swapped and I had a buddy submit them using his acct, cause I was busy. Last winter PCGS was running 48 Business Days. When he got them finally back he sent me my coins in the group (2) of the 8 coins had damaged holder from the post office. I bought them on a fairly "thin margin" just to flip them. I only really wished to have 1 coin the customer had and it was a :take all type deal" and once I got them back I made a "decision"! I would have to pay 8.00 sub form fee, 12.00 x 2 re holder fee and 26.95 return shipping and the shipping cost to send them at 15 bucks or so. Or sell in knowing it would bring a bit less, but when I subtracted the costs it was so close I just cashed out of the coins. Anyway the holder had 4 FULLY CLOSED sides that where never pulled apart when I sent it out. PCGS would of reholdered the coin. I even have a Ins claim form filed with the Post office. As the coin was not "DAMAGED" ITS BEEN DENIED. The 72 Days later was just a surprise.  |

The buy knows what he had when he bought it from you. He took a chance. He lost. That's not your fault. If he was in Las Vegas and won a sum of money and let it ride and lost he couldn't go back and ask for what he had before he let it ride.

So if someone sends in a PCGS coin to be regraded, and it grades less than the original grade PCGS refunds the difference in value?

They determine the fair market difference, but for the most part yes.

ebay is usually very fair and equitable in dealing with cases like this. And yours is extremely strong in your favor. I would sleep the sleep of the righteous and not worry. P.S. I would not refund a dime.
