I just bought 4 browns and 3 blues off my dealer for $7 each yesterday. Happy with that, they're all pretty nice too.

That's excellent compared to what I've been paying, both at the show and ebay. They've been costing me almost twice that. I better start looking elsewhere. Rick

This guy cuts me great deals on stuff all the time... I've probably bought 15 brown box Ikes and 20 blues from him (every time he gets 'em, I buy 'em) and he turns them over fast... it works well for everybody.
Best part is he doesn't care about varieties. :)

Post away smoke, I never tire of seeing the excellent coin pics on this forum.
I see you have the elusive 73s 40%, I can't seem to locate one that won't break the bank.
What do you consider a fair market price for the 73s 40%, blue and brown?

Quote: Oh, and of course you always have the Dansco album option... More drool. Of course, this is an option that I have exercised myself.

shootn, those two in particular I purchased randomly. In other words, I can not remember for the life of me if I bought them in OGP or already out. I do know the only Ike I have paid more than 15 or so dollars for is my 73S PR69DCAM from PCGS. That one was 35. It's in the group pic on page 2. Next to the last row, all the way to the right. As for fair price for the 73s. Hmmm, in the range of 64 or so, regular cameo on the proof, 10-15 bucks. The BU is actually valued higher than the proof in regular cameo. You get above 64, and start having DCAM designations, the price jumps. The 35 I paid for mine was actually the cheapest at the show I got it at. The other 3 I found were above 70. And hey, I have refrained from posting the pics of the second Dansco I put together for the wife.

I bought a 72S PCGS PR69DCAM at the last show, I think it was $38. Other than that one I haven't paid more than $15 for any. Got a brown off ebay last week that looked terrible, has a milky haze to the finish and some black tarnish on the rim. I can't figure out how an Ike in sealed OGP could get so degraded. I mentioned it to the seller an he of course took great offense, but did offer to refund my money and me keep the coin. I declined the refund, just wanted him to be more accurate in his descriptions. The next guy might not be as easy going as I. Rick

OK, before I say this, I do NOT want to hear any junk about cleaning coins. This has been oft discussed and naysayers can take their negativity elsewhere. Rick, the cases they put the Ikes in are not air tight. Same goes for the GSA Morgans. Thats why, in both cases, you can get coins that tone or go milky or the like while in the case. I would recommend a dip in E-Z Est. That will remove the milky haze and the tarnish. Rinse in distilled water to remove the dip. *sits back and waits for the chorus of yelling and calling me an idiot*

OK, that explains a lot. It's just my other brownies look pristine and mirror like in their OGP.
Can you open and close these cases without damaging them?
Are you saying a 73S blue BU Ike has a greater value than a proof, non-DCAM brown one?
I hadn't thought of dipping the coin. Would that be something I should do now or will the coin continue to degrade if I don't? Which will hold more value, a dipped or a degraded?

Finally got a 73 S blue Ike for a reasonable $15 even. Onward and upward !

If you do not over dip the coin, no one would ever be able to tell. I would not put it back in the OGP as it is obviously not airtight now. You would be better off slabbing it yourself.

Nothing wrong with giving some Ikes a little dippy doo, I do it on some. :)

Car trunks. Back in the early 70's they didn't have mini vans, SUV's, and most dealers didn't drive vans. Instead after every show they would pack their coins into the trunk and drive to the next show. Now the trunk is not airconditioned and in the summer driving around on the highways the temperature in the trunk can easily get to 150 degrees. These coins were BAKED week after week with the plastic outgassing from the high temperatures. Quote: Can you open and close these cases without damaging them? No, they are sonicly welded and will normally break when opened.
