I don't know about that. Most of the '82s I find are copper!

Here's the final tally. 2500 coins searched and this is what I ended up with. Thoughts? Is this a fairly average take?

I would keep them all, and I also put the 1982's in separate jars.

Probly just below average number of coppers - depending on your area. you can save the coppers, but unless you save a ton ( literally) its not worth all that much - and that eats up time and takes up space and ties up capital. But it's up to you. I just sold over 30000 copper penniesZ

I keep copper. I average 11 wheaties a box, looks like you got 12. Nice!

The amount of wheat's are on about par with my $25 boxes I get. I also just keep the 81 and older pennies I don't keep the 82s.

You can get a 0.01g scale on ebay for about $5. Works great for the 1982's.

Appears that you had fun ... that is what matters.

I assume you are not counting the 1982 cents in your approximate 350 coppers found ... if so your 14% copper find rate is a bit low compared to what my roll search data shows.

Make sure you weigh the 82's or do the ping test because only like a third are copper.

This is not an accurate statement ... as you will discover when you purchase a scale and weigh the coins you have set aside.

Both mints struck 1982 cents on 95% copper planchets for the majority of the year.

I kept track of 1982 composition for a 16 box search run ... and my data shows that 87% of the 1187 total 1982 dated cents that I found were 95% copper.

Now that you have them all sorted out by date, you need to breakout your copy of the CherryPickers Guide and figure out if there are any real scores in there... that 52D has a D over S worth as much as 400x the regular value. The 56D, 56P & 59D all have pickable varieties... there's a project if you are laid up for another week :-) :-(

Located in Northern Indiana. I was laid up ill, my son went and picked it up for me. I believe it was a local Centier bank. I was grateful for something to do while I was laid up. Have to go again only this time while I'm not sick...
